Cognates

Easy Cognates

On day 3, go over one or two pages of Cognados / Cognates. Explain what cognates mean and why it is essential to know that even if they don't speak the target language, they will understand many words in a conversation. The Cognates lesson is five pages and is a great way to have fun with the players. Tell the players you will play a game when you all finish the first worksheet.

Pass the first page around and have each player read a set of words (Spanish and English). Players should feel comfortable interjecting their thoughts, ideas, and especially memories. This is key to making class memorable. The group class is meant to be inclusive, and everyone learns from each other. Please don't rush through it.

Play a game of musical chairs after completing one page, and do another page. Pronunciation is not crucial at this point.
