Every day, focus on what you can change and use what can be changed to accept what can not be changed.
I use the acronym ChaRGD to remember the four mantras I live by every day.
Focus on what you can change
Do the best you can with the resources you have
Modify your goals but stay true to yourself
Don’t be afraid to try something new and difficult.
My progression since the brain surgery that changed my life forever has not been easy, and this first mantra is one I say to myself often. Applying this to my physical limitations, I accept that there are some nerves that will not grow back and some muscles that will always be weaker. However, there are many muscles I can strengthen, and abilities I can improve. Every day at the gym, physical therapy, or even just walking around, I try to improve anything I can.
