So I'm in a different catalog. Now just to demonstrate the facial recognition features that were added in Lightroom. cc, I don't have a lot of faces in my travel catalog. I mean, I do but the not the not a repetition of faces, I guess is what I mean. So these are just some images from some of the studio lighting workshops we've run here in Melbourne over the years. And there's a repetition of some of the models that we've worked with.
So I'm going to use these ones to demonstrate the faces feature. So down, and it's also good that it's a relatively small catalog, designing 111 images, so we don't have to wait a long period for faces to go through its checklist. So if we have a look down here on the toolbar, we've got this little icon here of this little face, and by clicking on it, we can activate this feature. So we've got two options here. It says, Do you want to Lightroom to automatically index the entire catalog? Or do you want it to only find faces as needed, which means you do it manual So I'm just going to go ahead and index the whole catalog just to show you what happens.
So when I click start finding faces, Lightroom is going to go through my 111 image, strong catalog. And it's going to find every face. So everything that it believes to be a face. And it's going to attempt to stack the faces in some sort of similar order, like if it thinks that's the same person, it'll and you can see it's happening already. Like it's fan, kay here, and it's put her in the same stack, it's found Tracy here, put her in a same stack. So although this is also Okay, so it's sort of sort of winning sorta not.
So let's just give it and I think I can jump in at this point. Now, like if I want to say, well, that's K, so I go k y. And now k gets moved up from the unnamed people section to the named people. And then I can say, well, this, this is also Okay, this for these four images here. So I can just drag I can just drag that whole stack and drop it on. And now it says we've got seven images here that Okay, and now notice Lightroom starting to learn.
So it says all is this case as well. And I say yes it is. Yes it is. And up that one goes. And it continues. So let's look for largest.
So we got four images here and this stack of, of Tracy Lee. So I'm going to say that's Tracy lay and hit Enter. And up, she goes to the names people. And now Lightroom says, Oh, well, if that's all try silly, maybe this is too and I can click Yes it is. and on it goes. So we're watching here, this is Sri here.
So I can click here. And into that, and this is also estra. And it's going to preemptively add it to there. So as we continue adding names Lightroom gets smarter it starts to learn who these people so it's good to hear that's and I can drag and drop onto a stressor. That's now clewd Lightroom to think maybe this is too and yes it is. Has the learning going there?
Lightroom we're getting there. Let's saw it on view of K there. We can drag that on. This is also okay. So it's I mean, to be honest, it's not. It's not doing a fantastic job.
It's sort of grabbing stuff. Let's say that's good five more. Tracy lays there. If I wanted to check that it is in fact all Tracy Lee I click on that stack icon and they all fan out and sure enough it is. And I click there to close it so I can drag or five, drop that on. So that's working there.
We got two more, that's also Tracy lay there. It's bunch these three vestra there, let me just check again that it is and it is all here, I can press S to open and close. All this is a nice little feature. If I just hold the S button down, it'll open and then let go and it's snapshot again. It's like kind of spring loaded feature is a little bit of a thing in there. So I'm going to drag drop that onto s3.
Now. We got seven stacks. Hear of, of Clarissa so let me just hold us down. And that is in fact all, Clarissa so I'll type that and see a Ah, well, I totally say I had to write that down to make sure I didn't misspell it. So that's Clarissa and as he's that photo there and then and it's still look to be honest, I'm surprised it's not picking that one as clear so but it's not so a bit of pass that on, I can select that one and hold down my command key to select all of those. Drag and drop that on there is try see late hasn't picked up on up, drag that on drag that on and these are all extra here.
And I'm Paige Paige is there. So that's the faces feature. Now I'm a guest though I haven't got a heap of faces this I might be If there was a lot more, it would start to become a bit smarter because it would have a lot more images to compare. I'm not sure I've got a great use for this to be honest. I mean, once it's done and notice it's applied the keywords now. So if I go back to my, if I exit my faces rather, so I exit faces and now look in his clear sight and it's missed this one.
But and it's you know, that's got Clarissa that's got Claire's That one's been missed. That one's been missed. So it's, if I want to in loop view, I think I can click on here and know that hang on, that takes me back in the face view. If I go if I'm in loop here, there it is there. I get this little icon here that allows me to draw faces so I can say this is Clarissa. And that gets added to the pile.
This is also Clarissa so I'm going to grab my faces thing here and say this is courtesy here. So Adding this just I mean, all it ultimately does is add the keyword at the end of the day. All it really does is add the keyword from the face. And it does overtime, I guess this would be probably most useful for family photos and so forth. So you could recognize all your family members and quickly have Lightroom organize them all together. I can't say I've got a huge use for it with my photography button, but perhaps depending on what you do, perhaps you do, there's a nice photo of Clarissa there that didn't get recognized also that I guess it makes sense profiles are going to be tricky.
So I'm just going to add this. So it's and he's just press enter and zooms in so it's an easier way to add keywords I guess. So now I can go all photos and I can go text and I can do a search on Clarissa and it says ends with contains There we go. So there's all my classes. Now. The reason I didn't get my original search there is because I think this was set for some reason to ends with as opposed to contains.
So notice I only had to type the CL, AR and it's got Clarissa I guess if there was someone called Claire in there as well, it might not have found that so easily. So that's the facial recognition, you can certainly go ahead and turn it on and go to bed and let it index your entire catalogue and find all the faces it can is another history. I don't think it's recognized. Let's just go so you can update them as you go. I guess it gets a bit addictive. Once you start, doesn't it?
Go ahead and do it and we're out of there and we're out of there. So facial recognition as added in Lightroom CC, it will go ahead and add the keywords to the faces that you add and over time, the more and more exposure it has to various faces, the smarter it will be
