Either schematic here, and in today's video, we're going to be looking at a method of cookery of boiling. So you're familiar with the term boiling so boiled eggs, or baikman boiled vegetables. But what is boiling? boiling is the cooking of different types of foods in a liquid which is usually water, and that liquid is at 100 degrees Celsius boiling point of water. So just to demonstrate boiling, what I'm going to do is to show you how to boil pasta. It could be fresh pasta, it can be dried pasta, it doesn't matter what it is.
But passer is one of those things that you really need to understand the method of cook reporting so you can cook it properly. So let's get into it, shall we? So what Today, we're going to call or boil 500 grams of spaghetti. This is just normal, dried spaghetti I bought from the supermarket, which was which we'll talk in a moment. One of the questions I often get asked is, well, we've been cooking pasta. How much water should I be using to cook my pastor?
Well, rule of thumb is for every 100 grams of pasta you cooked, that's either dried past or fresh pasta. Use one liter of water. So I've got here 500 grams of pasta. So what I'm going to need is five liters of water. So the ratio is 100 grams of pasta to one liter of water. I've got 500 grams of pasta here.
So I need five liters of water. If you were cooking a kilo of pasta, you'd be 10 litres of water and so on and so on. So, to cook person, obviously, you're going to need a lot of water. And so what we use is a large pot, such as this one because that's actually going to be able to contain all the water that we need. So what I'm gonna do is the large 10 steel pot here with the lid and liter of water here. So what I'm going to do now is I'm going to add five liters of water to the pot and then turn the pot on and what we'll do is we'll bring them up to the board.
So I'll fill the parts up and turn it on and as soon as the pop comes to boil, I'll get back to you. So our water has come to the boil now and I've got to say before, the reason I put the lid on was if we put a lid on the top of the water and then bring it to the boil, it actually helps the water come to the boil a lot faster. So just very, very carefully take the lid off I'll show you what boiling actually is boiling. When you've got large bubbles of water coming to the surface, this is what boiling looks like. Sometimes you actually can be a lot more, I suppose with violent than this as well. But this is what boiling looks like the water has come to 100 degrees Celsius and he's boiling nicely.
So what I'm gonna do now is just turn this off just for the moment because I want to talk about a couple of other things. Now another question I get I said, Why do we use so much water when we boil pasta? Well, the reason is, is steaming into the facial here. And the reason why I use a lot of water when you call pastor is that when you add the pastor to the water, you need enough volume of water so the water actually keeps boiling. After the parser is put being put in, if you put your password in the wall What's that and because the past is like cola in the water, it can drop the temperature of the water and your water won't be calling anymore. It'll just be just very, very hot indeed.
And then has to come back up to the ball. So the reason is we have modifying the water so the water stays boiling as possible. Okay. Oh, the question I get asked is how much salt do we add to the water when we were cooking pasta? And it's very good question as well. It all depends on pretty much how much salt you like in your diet.
And, and also depends on what different types of salt you use as well. Some salts are actually saltier than other salt and believe it or not, and what I use is I use normal regular table salt buy from the supermarket and for my taste What I do is every liter of water I add a tablespoon of salt, every liter. Now that may seem like a lot of salt when you're cooking your pastor, but just remember you just mentioned spoons here that most of the salt isn't going to actually go into the pastor itself. Most of the salt will actually stay in the water and go down the drain after you after you finish cooking the past step four. Find the reason we haven't saved into the past assaults in the past up to those two Water we're going to cook the pastoring is and that actually seasons the pastor itself.
So the part of the pastor itself doesn't actually have any salt or very, very little salt in it. And if you just use unsalted water to cook your pastor, what happens is your pastor he doesn't taste of anything. It's just past three doesn't really have any like flavor because if the flavor and the past are out, and it's a bit flat, the flavor so it doesn't really matter what source you're out to the pastor after you've cooked it. The past is still not gonna taste as good as it can. So what we're going to do is we've added half a tablespoon of salt, regular table salt to one liter of the water. So here I've got 123551 half tablespoons of water.
So what to do now properly Come to me calm. We'll bring the water back up to the ball and then and then we'll cook a pasta. And I'll see you in a moment when the waters come back to the ball. So I want to come back to the boil off. Got my master here, just got off, I'm gonna put this in. And this is 500 grams of pastor dry pastor this should feed four to six people comfortably for a main course depending on their appetites.
And if there's just one of you then or two of you, usually rule of thumb about main four main core size past that and about 100 grams of pasta per person, roughly rule of thumb. So I've got my pastor here now little trick as easy as spaghetti. So you know sometimes you put spaghetti in and it just falls to one side and just fine. I have a trick I we used to use in the restaurant was you sort of hold the pastor like this between the two things and then you twist it. And then what you do is you then drop it in and it should go all the way around all the way around the the pot nice and evenly. So I'll show you how to do that now.
So take your pastor, give it a bit of a twist like that. And then drop it in and it should go nice and evenly around your pot. Then what I normally do is put the lid back on as quickly as possible, just so we get the water back up to the boil ASAP so a pasta can start cooking passes in the water. Now I'm just going to give it a bit of a stir with my My pasta I'm what you call is really close to sterile I think and it's got a special It's a special tool when you get it utensil to it's got like a like teeth on the end of it so it's easy to pick the pastor up. So all I'm gonna do now is just give the pastor a stir so it's not sticking together just leaving a slight gap so the woods so the steam can evaporate and I get out otherwise what happens is the water starts to boil over.
And I'm going to pull this past for about seven to 10 minutes. So another question which is great question How long do you cook pasta for different types of dry pastors need different cooking times but generally rule of thumb anywhere between seven to 10 minutes or more We have Dr. Pastor will walk you very very nicely. And and there's always this talk about you know, how do I went past the scope and then take what's called a venti to the tea so it's open to interpretation cook pasta the way I like to eat it and if you I like my passive a little bit of a bite in it so a little bit of a texture so our cooking for about seven or about seven, eight minutes but my wife she likes her pants are cooked all the way through so it's a little it's quite soft.
So for passive we'll cook it for about 10 minutes. It all depends on your tastes and how you like to cook pasta. And another thing about my code is that you know past cooks, you take some of it and throw it at the wall and stick to it's called. You can try it if you want a bit of a in me, old lifestyle, you don't have to throw upon a certain wall, brick to stick and then wherever that came from, and but you know, there it is. So could you pass that ball in seven to 10 minutes after cut, what we're going to do is with a colander like this, we will drain it. And then at that point, your pasta will then be ready to serve.
And then you would add a source of your choice could be a cream based sauce, it can be just some olive oil with some tomatoes and basil is number a very simple, or it can be a tomato sauce. Well, I'm going to be doing any sources in this video. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you how we're going to train our pastor. And then we're going to add some oil to it. And the reason being, excuse me, the reason being is that if we, when we want to store our past that if we don't have any oil to encode the parser any oil, it's going to stick together like a like a big long So we'll join up pastor thoroughly, we'll put it back in the pot, we'll add some oil to it, give it a bit of a stir, and then we can put into a container, let it go cold, and then we'll be able to store it in the refrigerator which we can then reheat you know, whenever we want iron in the microwave or your back in some hot water, like like we did with the vegetable, the steamed vegetables.
And so this is so seven to 10 minutes, and I'll get back to you shortly. So you say fine, so time is just going off and a pastor has been wanting for eight minutes to take the lid off. And I'm just going to try some of it so it's with a pair of tongs. Very, very carefully pick out a piece. This is how to test out if your purse has cooked or not. Just take some and Troy was perfect for me, but a little bit of bite and not too so and that will take the pastor is actually really really nicely seasons as well so that when you add your sauce, which is also season, then you're not going to have to add more salt and pepper to your pasta.
What we're going to do now we're going to take a colander and put it into a sink and drain our pasta. Just be careful when you're draining your pasta that the water is very, very hot. The way I know you some dry tea towels to hold your part because it could be very, very hot. So when you pass the water, it's just going down the drain. And you're positive prostitute Columba. And just passes nicely cooked just like this beautiful passage.
Now, you can save your passage just like this, and I just saw, but what we're going to do is we're going to put it out into the pot and then add some oil and so we're going to store it later on. So we've got a pass through here, which is perfectly cooked. But if we leave it if we're going to store it like this, though, what will happen is when it calls because it won't start in the past, it's all going to stick together. So what I'm going to do is put this to one side is we'll take a plot and add our paths that package our plot just like this. And I'm going to add probably about half a cup of oil. This is just playing next to the wall.
And this isn't going to play with the password at all at all. It's actually going to do is to cut the parser so the parser doesn't sort of stick together. Just going to add my oil to my pasta about half a cup and then just give it a stir like this. Make sure your your spaghetti or whatever person you're cooking is nicely coated just like this. And then we'll put it into a container, let it call and then we can store it in the refrigerator. It's coconut oil.
So stick probably gonna do now is way and then putting into a container. plastic container they should focus cool little bit were put into the refrigerator can't focus at the box a little bit hot. And so I pass this coat putting the container because of the oil coating the past that it won't stick. We'll let this cool down for about half an hour. And then what we'll do is when it comes down to room temperature, we'll put it into the fridge and it will stay in your refrigerator quite happily for about two to three days quite comfortably. If your refrigerator is a bit colder, maybe another day.
Usually, this will get eaten tomorrow. Because my family want me to make a bowl and a source for another one of these videos, which I'm going to do shortly, so we'll be having spaghetti ball names for tomorrow night's dinner. And so that's boiling as a method of cookery. So we boiled spaghetti and hope you you enjoyed the video and I will see you in. I'll see you next time. Bye bye
