The five toxic mentalities that sabotage your success. Whenever we want to achieve something, we view that goal somewhere in the future. And sometimes our mind sabotages us from thinking that that faraway goal is actually closer than it looks. I still remember the time that I started my business like seven years ago, I think it was. And I was very into No, it was like nine years ago, there was very, very enthusiastic, I wanted to develop an online course in time management. And my belief at that time was that if I take it step by step, and slowly take each step, using all the resources, all the connections, and understanding every piece of the puzzle, I wouldn't be able, at any moment in time to replicate that road to success.
So what I did was to take slow, steady steps towards my success. The problem was that my belief was actually a limiting belief. partner of mine that started at around the same time, a business partner, we, he started in entrepreneurship courses, creating courses on how to build businesses. And his mentality was, I'm not going to take it step by step, what I'm going to do is to try three projects and disregard the two that don't have success and just concentrate on the one that hasn't. And after that, use that information to create other three projects and quickly discard the other two that don't serve success. So basically, what that person did was trying once trying twice, trying third time, and the third time was the lucky one, then The first time was the lucky one.
And the second, not that lucky, the third not that lucky, then again. So basically, instead of going step by step, step by step with slow steps towards the success, that person did like this. And he went in that direction while I was going in this direction. My progress was very, very slow, though study while his progress was exponential. And the only difference was our mentality, my idea of taking it step by step and making sure that I had all the things needed in order to take the next step. Compared to his idea of testing a lot of things out and just discarding most of them and letting the important things remain.
I only understood this thing at all. a seminar he did on limiting beliefs in which I realized when he talked about another example, how this thing was actually limiting my business and now erased, no more limiting belief not that one at least. But limiting beliefs like these sabotage, sabotage me and they may also sabotage you when you create your course. So, what are the top five limiting beliefs or toxic mentalities that sabotage your success? The first one is thinking, I can do it without even trying. Earlier this year, I was at international training from developed by experiential educators Europe, in which I helped train you in gamification and one of the other trainers has a training in libraries in Creating a maze through which we needed to pass in order to rescue that Princess Princess, a wonderful, sexy princess.
So what I saw when I exited the building and entered the garden because he prepared the labyrinth in the garden was 24 squares by 24. So a big field. And each of those steps could have been a bush or somewhere that if I stepped upon, I needed to return back to the beginning. What we needed to do for that task was to arrive from one end of the library to the finish line, so 24 steps, but also 24 to the right of to the left, so it was more complicated than a chessboard. Each step would be a bush case which we return to the beginning or it could be a question Regarding experiential education, or afraid that the problem was that we needed to memorize all the steps needed, because if we failed in one step, we need to trace back our steps to the beginning.
And if you weren't able to do it, we went into the corner and we had some birthday thingies there that and birthday gifts and mascots and basically we ruined ruined the other people's day the ones that were trying to get to the end it was basically a memory game and I'm very bad with my memory. So what I thought when I arrived there was that it would be impossible to pass from this point 24 squares to this point, because during the road may have been like geez or there were some times you could jump like decent then jump like this and then started again at the beginning. So I thought it was impossible. But the thing is that once we started playing the game, we develop the system in which the people from the outside could signal, what Square was already tested and was bad or good without talking because there was no talking.
So, at first, my idea was that it's impossible. And after a few tries, I realized that we had a choice. And in the end, I was the person that memorize the whole roadmap towards the end line. Then, when I came from this boot camp, with this challenging game that's so warm. That helps you overcome your belief that you don't have a good memory. I implemented it in our training in business development, a training on how to start your online course.
So what I did was create a big room with lots of potential steps there. They weren't 24 I think there were like 10 or 2020 steps. And people had to go through that room, not knowing which step was right and which was bush. And all the people before starting told me that, no, this is impossible, it's very hard, because there will be so big and each step can be can be blocked. So I said, okay, but just try. And then a few of them tried and again, they stated that it was impossible, but suddenly somebody found the path and the path went forward and forward and forward.
And just with some, a little bit of turning back, they got to the end, and they did it 10 minutes before I estimated they would finish. And I asked them at the debriefing period, how can they do this? Hmm, One of the guys told me that this is exactly like when I wanted to start my business. I thought it's so hard. I didn't even try. So, regarding the limiting belief, I can do it without trying.
My challenge for you is step on that labyrinth. Take a step further forward and see what happens. You may be surprised that actually, it's not that hard. It's that simple. So before you start thinking, I can't do it. Take a step.
What's the worst thing that can happen? And remember, zero plus zero plus zero plus 000 equals zero. But if we take small steps, 0.1 plus 0.1 plus 0.1, Indian, you arrive at one and one plus one, then etc. so basic mathematics tells us that if we don't even try, we will never succeed. If we try and let's say that we fail, we try again and we fail again. But we learn some things from those failures.
And when we try the third time, congratulations. There is no bush and there is no trap. There is only a clear path towards success.
