Hey, welcome to blogging masterclass. In this video, we're going to talk about how to find a good niche to target to make sure that you're beginning with the end in mind. And you're writing about a topic that not only is going to intrigue people, but it's also inevitably going to make you money. So the first resource that we can use is the AdWords, Google Keyword Tool, I have a video in this module that shows you how to use this properly. But when you go into the Google Keyword Tool, you should already have a broad topic ID. Okay, so you should already kind of have an idea of what it is you want to talk about.
Now, if you're an expert, then of course, you'll already have a good idea of what you want to talk about. If you're not really sure if you're new to blogging, then a couple places you can kind of think of to get going. There's three niches that we really call the big three. Okay, these are niches that, you know, pretty much everybody has an interest in one of these and they are making money. I specifically making money online We've also got dating and relationship advice. And then also health and fitness.
So these are three big niches that you can really do no wrong writing about, they're always going to be, they're always, they're always going to be interest. And there's always going to be a market. Now these these niches typically are pretty saturated. So you will have to go in and kind of niche down and find little niches inside of these niches that you can then target to stand out from the competition and actually reach a certain part of your market and kind of segment a little bit. Okay, so you don't want to just start writing a blog about health and fitness in general, because you're going to be competing with a lot of people here. Okay.
So when we're using the Google Keyword Tool, you're going to go in, you're going to type in your broad keyword, and then let Google provide keyword ideas. Okay? So what we're going to be targeting is longtail keywords, okay, so these are phrases. So an idea I put here is play online games. So If you were to just type in games, or target games, like I said before, you're going to have a lot of competition. Even if you typed in online games, you're still going to have a lot of competition here, there's going to be a lot of people that are competing with you.
If you type in play online games, that does a couple things. One, it kind of cuts down the competition a little bit, you're getting more targeted. Now, there's going to be a lot of competition for this key phrase play on online games in general. But the idea is that the more words you have, the more competition or the less competition you'll have. And the more targeted you'll be. Okay.
The second thing this does is kind of puts an action term in here play. Okay, play online games. So when you're targeting these types of folks, you're targeting people that are looking to take action. Now they're typing in an action oriented keyword, play online games. So this is good for you. Okay, this means that you're probably if you're going to be trying to do some kind of official It promotion with online games, then you're looking you're targeting people that are actually looking to play them.
And then another little piece of advice here, free, the word free is not always a good keyword to target. Typically, when you type in the word free, you're looking for something for free, okay? And if you're trying to make money with your blog, then you're going to want people that are going to be willing to spend money and free typically doesn't yield itself to that it can be a great way to get someone's interest maybe in an ad, and then kind of upsell to the to the thing you're trying to sell for your blog. You know, maybe free tips or something is good, but when it comes to targeting your keywords, you're going to want to make sure that you come and stay away from free for the most part. So once you've got your keyword ideas from Google, you're going to want to refine your keyword search.
Okay, so now you're going to take the longtail keywords that we found, and then you're going to choose only show ideas closely related to search terms, okay, and that'll be right there in the Google Keyword Tool as an option. So when you do this, it's going to start targeting, you know even more keywords that are longtail even more phrase type keywords, and it's going to start helping you segment a lot more. Okay. Now, I did say that high competition will be hard to rank for in the search engines. But if a keyword does have high competition, then it's going to also show you that that niche is likely profitable, okay. And that's why there's a lot of competition.
So it means in the Google Adwords Keyword Tool that people are bidding on these keywords, okay, that means they're spending money, because these advertisements are making money. Typically, if a lot of people are spending money on an ad, that means a lot of people are clicking on the ad and buying whatever they're trying to. So you've got to kind of strike that balance between, you know, keywords that have a lot of competition, but also are going to be a little bit easier to rank for SEO for things like that and get your blog actually ranked in the search engines. So people will find you and read your material and inevitably click on your links and buy
