Okay, for this next lid, we're going to be throwing it upside down. So basically we'll be throwing it knob down, and then we'll come back in and throw our knob on it after we have finished the forming process. So first thing I'm going to do is take my measurement of my inside of my wall. And with this one, I'm going to be throwing it again upside down so it will give you an opportunity to really see the forming of the flange and some important things to consider when throwing these flanges onto your piece. First on the center of my clay and compress it down Take this down about a quarter inch from the bottom. Pull it out till I get close to our measurement of that internal flange a little bit more chat we're just about there.
So now I'm going to go ahead and take this ring of clay and actually cut that just about in half. Something like so. Remember we're turning this knob upside down or upside down. So what we're looking at right here is the bottom of the lid. And this area right here is the flange that's gonna sit inside our container. Double check or major See where we're sitting right there, we need to take this in just a little bit more, but we're pretty close.
So let's talk about this flange for a second and a couple important things. Again, this is the area that's going to be banging up against the jar itself. So we want to make sure it doesn't come to that it's not too sharp, there's not too thin. When picking it up, take it in just a little bit to match our measurement, but also, you want to have that plant being slightly inward, never outward. If it bends outward, when you lower down, it has to clear that area right in here to fit down inside the lid. And then it's automatically going to have a loose fit because the inside is taken in farther than that top edge.
If it's flaring in like it is right now. It's gonna allow it to slide into position and have a nice tight fit, which once we have these all set up, we'll do cross sections of them and show you what I'm talking about. Let's check our measurement once more chrome measurement is looking pretty solid. This one should have a slight overhang and then our last one, we'll give it a larger overhang. Just overhangs can definitely be fun. Just gonna stiffen this up for a second and we'll see how it looks.
Now that our listeners had a chance to sit up and go ahead and cut off the bat and flip it upside down, or right side up, I should say up a little bit consider this backup in our wheel. Just a little bit with these LEDs there's not really a whole lot of cleanup to do. Remote has a pretty pretty bodies, remove some of that grid for sick of variety, be nice to give this one a pulled handle. And then on the last one we'll do another thrown handle See some different options here. A little bit bigger piece of clay here but to quickly make this work. Again, this is I'm working fairly loose for the sake of demo purposes.
It's my own studio do work. Take my time really clean this up, make it look nice. I'm just kind of wanted to illustrate some of the possibilities some of the options here. I could have easily sedated scored and put on a throne handle on their little movement again and Paula overhang. Nice big whoop handle this catch with your finger. There we go.
