This is the test score data of the MBA class. The test score is out of hundred marks. I have added this data in the resources section of this lecture for you to download and use. Please copy and paste the data in Minitab choose stat, basic statistics, display descriptive statistics. I repeat, choose stat. basic statistics.
Display descriptive statistics. In variables, enter test score. Click statistics. In the display descriptive statistics statistics box, uncheck all of the boxes and keep only the following boxes checked. They are mean standard deviation, median mode minimum, maximum and total. Click ok.
In each dialog box, here you go. This is the session window output. The total count is 200. That is there are 200 data points in this data set. The test score has a mean of 70.856. And the median is also almost the same.
The standard deviation is 2.579. That means the individuals have on an average scored 70 out of 100 with a standard deviation of plus or minus 2.579. This indicates that there is not much variance in the score. Almost everyone is around the 70 mark. The minimum is about 65 And the maximum is 78. No two individuals have scored the same Mark hence there is no mode.
Considering the minimum passing score is 60 each student in the class have passed the test. However, the class seems to have less number of students who have scored a distinction that is above 75 marks. Hope this example was interesting. I have written the steps performed on Minitab in a document and added that document to the resources section of this lecture. Please feel free to download the PDF for offline viewing. You will now do an activity in the next lecture.
