Hey everyone. Welcome to this lecture, what is displayed descriptive statistics. Let's say you have the test score data of students in an MBA class. There are about 200 students in the class. Rather than looking at each individual score for 200 students, you want to gain a quick overview of how the class has performed on an overall basis. In the situation, the display descriptive statistics tool in Minitab comes in very handy.
The tool can produce descriptive statistics for the given data. That is it can calculate the mean, median, mode, standard deviation, variance, first quartile, third quartile, interquartile range and a bunch of other stats. Looking at these numbers, you can easily gauge if the class has done well or the performance has been poor. You don't have To spend time observing the score of each individual student, and then deciding how the overall class has progressed. A few key points to note are additional stats. The newer versions of Minitab allow you to calculate additional stats such as sum of squares skewness, kurtosis, trimmed mean, etc.
Minitab gives you the option to choose which stats Do you want to calculate Minitab output Minitab will publish the results in the session window. However, it provides an additional feature where advanced users can use this tool to display the data in graphs such as histogram, box, plot, etc. resources. If you're fairly new to the concept of Mean, Median mode and other measures, no worries. I have added a downloadable document with definitions of a few important measures in the resources section of this lecture. Please feel free to download and view offline.
When can you use the display descriptive statistics tool when the data in columns is numeric. The optional grouping column, also called as a bi column can be numeric, text, or date and time. The optional grouping column must be of the same length as the data column. Minitab automatically omits missing data from the calculations. With this background, let's look at how will you perform display descriptive statistics on Minitab
