So what is modular design? And what is real modular design? I think modular design is video game design is when you build up your game assets from premade parts, also known as modules. And why do I say that there is real modular design? Because I think there is unreal. It's me each one.
And this is my brother Luigi. Come on. We all know that in the old games, they were trying to spare resources and spare some time. And that's why they just created the same asset once in red and once in green. That's clever, but not really modular design. Imagine playing a game where all your enemies are looking the same, just different color.
Wow, okay, if you think about reptile, and subzero and Scorpio in Mortal Kombat, okay, different moves, I know. But still, they were looking like Green Ninja and blue ninja Of course. It is not really interesting. So all These little guys looking the same is not as interesting like having enemies like these. They are looking similar, but they are unique. You can identify them, you can relate to them.
And also as a developer, you can create them easily with modular design, how you make parts up front, you think up front, you plan and you make the parts up front. For example, this is how I build up faces you saw on the previous panel, just a few parts, which you can assemble any way you want, and create any face you want. That's it and they are all looking different. That is, I think, real modular design, because although there are different colors, there are also different shapes, expressions, and of course, endless ways to assemble these pre made modules. This is what this course is about.
