The second habit I want to bring to your attention is called planning. Planning. Our time is an area we should be always focused on. Successful people love their calendars, and they have a specific plan, how they will spend their time today, tomorrow and next week. This is short term planning. But in order to plan your time well, you must have goals which are prioritized.
Once you are specific on the outcomes you would like to achieve. Then you go ahead and determine the work or activity that will have the highest impact towards achieving your goals. If you do daily planning, your most important tasks should be first in your list. The topic of planning goes back to the good old goal setting concept. So the first thing you need to do is to identify the goals of the three most important areas in your life. personal health related ships in business, you will have to write your goals down and try to be as specific as possible.
For example, one of your business goals might be to reach $200,000. This year, you put a deadline on a specific date. And you think about these leverage points I was talking about earlier, that will bring the highest positive impact on your business. Maybe this is marketing, I don't know. Usually, achieving a particular goal is connected with increasing improving our skill set. Oftentimes, you will need new skills to get to the place you want to be.
You need to identify which these skills are and you need to master them. And here's what we have so far. You know what your goals are in the top three areas of life. You know what skills you need to achieve your goals. You know, that you need to identify points of leverage that will have the highest positive impact probably you've heard of vilfredo Pareto in his role. 8020 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort and now comes planning, you need to create an action plan to follow.
Then you need to cultivate self discipline. In other words, you need to follow the plan and eventually you will achieve the results you want. Yes, it requires work, thinking in planning, but this is how you succeed. Forget about the deceitful, self help movement that promises you will achieve everything you want with the power of positive thinking. You know what, I tried it, it doesn't work. Yes, being positive helps.
But this is just one small, really small ingredient for success. And when I say success, I always refer to your perception of success because it is personal success is achieving your meaningful goals. This on the other hand is connected with your values. But I don't want to get ahead of myself. I sincerely want to help you achieve your goals and elevate yourself to You level. However, I cannot do that if you don't take action.
Everything I teach has been researched, tried and tested. Before I close the lecture, I want to show you a quick example of goal setting, and action steps and discipline. Here's a list of goals I wrote. Number one, learn English to pass successfully TOEFL exam with a score of 100 points number to visit the United States of America, New York and Washington number three admission to Copenhagen business school. I set the goals and did the planning and put the hard work, and I achieve all three. I'm sharing these personal moments in my life with you.
