The next habit I want to discuss with you is called heart work. Remember the action plan from the previous lecture? Nice. Here's what you have to do. Now, you need to work hard towards the accomplishment of your goals. There is no substitute for hard work, there is no substitution for hard work.
As with the rest of the habits you need to practice. I believe your motivation plays an important role here. Because if the goals you set previously are meaningful enough for you, that will be a great source of intrinsic motivation. Here is my definition of success. Again, achieving your meaningful goals. And the key word here is meaningful for you.
Not what's accepted by the society you live in. You must know who you are before you set any goals. Otherwise, it's really easy to copy goals from some kind of standard set in the society. We live in. When we talk about hard work, I don't necessarily mean working long hours, I talk about concentrated effort that's pointed towards a particular task. I talk about doing your best on a conscious level.
This is my task. I know why I do it. I know why it is important for me, and I'm going to give my best to complete it. Another misconception is that working hard means you don't get breaks so you can have more time to put into the actual work. Well, this is simply not the case. Here is the thing.
We've got four types of energy, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. First of all, they must be balanced between these energies. And second, if you want to be productive, a high performing individual, you need to be aware how you charge these energy levels because they deplete at some point. Let's take a look. Muscle for example, your biceps. growth happens when you expend energy by doing physical exercises and then recovery.
If you exercise really hard every day, your biceps will never grow because it doesn't have time to recover. Recovery. When we talk about physical energy happens with sleep, good food and rest. The situation with mental energy is identical. Working hard, does not mean only pushing to the limit of your mental abilities, you will burn out if you do so. You need to be expanding in recuperating energy.
It's a cycle, expand, recover, expand, recover. This is how you grow your mental muscle. If you really want to dig deep into the topic, the book I recommend you read is called the power of full engagement. Now I've got a question. Do you see similarities and connections between the top three areas of life I advise you to set your goals The types of energy. Hope you do.
All right, let's recap. There is no substitution for hard work. Your Goals must be meaningful for you to make the whole process worldwide. Give your best when you work on your action plan. Your biggest motivation comes from insight, your intrinsic motivation for types of energy exists. And this one is crucially important, especially if you're a perfectionist like myself.
Balancing stress and recovery is vitally important in any performance venue. I wanted to bring a different perspective to the topic of hard work. Hope I did it with this lecture and gave you some things to consider. I'm going to challenge your thinking by asking you a question. Since you know that your energy levels are important for performance. How are you spending your energy now?
Do you spend your energy and your time in a way that's consistent With your values, even when I'm saying these words, they are so impactful for me. I hope this is the case for you too. Thank you for watching.
