Here are five tips to get the most out of visual journaling. Create a comfortable workplace. Make a drink, light a candle, play music or a podcast in the background, and give yourself some time to create. Gather your supplies and place them nearby or around you so you can access them easily. Create pages in your journal. If you're concerned about getting things precise, use a pencil marks with a light touch.
If you enjoy the process, just create and enjoy the results. After you complete your pages examine them. Do you like the message you're sending? When I created some pages, I found that my images, my words and illustrations, were quite depressing. I didn't like it. But I realized that through my work that this tone was carrying on into my life I didn't want that to be negative.
So through my creation, what I originally considered a failure in my work was an opportunity to change my attitude and become more positive. So learn from what you create. Don't worry if it's perfect. Don't worry if it's not what you want to convey. You've learned about yourself in this process, and you'll grow because of it. And lastly, consider scanning your completed images to save your pages and your artwork for the long term.
