In this video, we're going to start talking about Runner's knee. Now there are few names for Runner's knee, and they're not easy to say. So bear with me, this damage might be caused from too much weight put in that area. It might be caused from overuse of this of this function. But it also might be caused of the kneecap sliding through the groove not properly or not at the right angle. This can happen for a number of reasons.
One of the most common reasons for example, is flat fuss. If somebody doesn't have a proper arch in their foot, it can cause the kneecap to slide at the wrong angle. And this will cause knee pain even though the problem is in the foot. If you have a weak hip muscle, or a gluteus medius, this is one of the muscles in the hip. Your hips might not be aligned properly as you're walking, running, walking upstairs, and this can also cause pain in your knee because of an improper angle. kneecap sliding through the roof.
Again, this is a problem with the hip, but it will show as knee pain. Okay, now that we know what causes this type of pain, let's talk about how it, how it affects and how it shows itself. So as we mentioned, your knee bending is what causes the patellar to run through the groove. And if there is weight put on this area. With a little bit of damage to the cartilage, it will cause pain. This happens as you walk upstairs as you walk uphill, or more commonly as you're standing up after sitting on a chair.
If you can walk normally on a flat surface, it might not hurt at all. But as soon as you walking upstairs, you'll feel the pain in your knees. This is very, very common characteristic of patellofemoral syndrome or Runner's knee. Let's talk about what populations are susceptible to get this type of pain. So as we mentioned, and as you can probably understand, if it hurts while you're walking upstairs As you're walking uphill, or if you're jumping, standing up from a chair, people who do these things a lot are more susceptible of having this type of pain. This includes people who play sports like basketball, volleyball, things that involve jumping.
It also includes runners because as you push off while you're running, this puts a lot of pressure on that area of the kneecap, onto the femur. And this can really, really cause that type of pain if you do this a lot. We're talking about Runner's knee or patella patellofemoral syndrome, a little bit of a tongue twister. It happens because of some type of damage some type of damage between the kneecap sliding through the groove of the femur, and this motion happens when we bend our knee. It most commonly happens when there's weight put on that motion meaning when we're walking upstairs, standing up from sitting on a chair or jumping these types of motions. And the populations who are most susceptible to this type of pain are runners Of course, according to the name people play sports that involve jumping like basketball or volleyball.
Alright, we've come to the end of this video. In the next video, we're going to talk about a different type of pain.
