Welcome to Module One of thought engineering, leadership. The first component of engineering thought is leadership. And the reason it's the first component is because without leadership, nothing else follows, literally. So what is leadership? What is it that separates great leaders and great leadership? And is leadership inborn?
Or is it something that can be learned? Now, when I teach this program live, I always start by asking a very simple question. What is leadership in one word, and while in this video program, we don't get the opportunity to interact with this question. I would ask you to actually just stop for a moment and think about that question for you. What is leadership in one word? Now the answers I generally get to the question along the lines Have inspiration direction or authority vision flexibility, results influence clarity, management power, knowledge to mention but a few.
And whilst none of those are incorrect, the definition I adhere to is the definition of who Deming. Now, Deming definition is this and you might want to write this down. Leadership is prediction. And the reason that leadership is prediction is because when you make a prediction and then you deliver on it. What do you build? You build trust, right?
So enhancing your ability to predict the future performance and then delivering on that prediction. When you do that, what happens to the level of trust? Does it go up or down? It goes up, right? And what is the fundamental component the the undercurrent of any successful or prosperous relationship? It's trust, right?
Let me illustrate that for you with a very simple example. Why is it that fundamentally we don't trust politicians? Now, you probably never consciously asked yourself that question. But it's a perfect example of the principle of this principle in action. If you analyze it consciously at its core, you'll find it's because they keep making predictions, which they call promises that they don't deliver on. So what happens to our level of trust in them, it diminishes until it's gone completely.
It's impossible to follow someone you don't trust. So what do My very clearly was that leadership is intrinsically linked to your quality or your ability, I should say, to make quality predictions, because this is the fundamental link to building trust, which is a leader is the primary attribute you must have and possess in spades. Now, in addition to this, Deming also identified that knowledge requires a prediction. Otherwise, it's just information. The floor is brown. That's just information.
But knowledge requires a prediction to be knowledge. And as a as the leader of your team, and your customers, your suppliers, all stakeholders, you make a prediction every single day, whether consciously or subconsciously, you make the prediction that if you follow me or deal with me, your life will improve and be supported, etc, etc. And if you don't follow through on that, what happens? Things start to fall apart, don't die. So your level or ability to make predictions is really Your level or ability to lead. So as an example, I made a prediction to you that when you when you sign up for this course that my prediction was this, do this course implement the knowledge and theories and your life will transform.
So had a Why? or more importantly, how do you know if my knowledge and theories are any good? Simple, how will they predict future performance? Now, I know that the knowledge and theories behind thought engineering will not only dramatically and predictably enhance performance in your business alive, it will also produce measurable enhance performance. And as we go through this program, you'll see that with your own eyes as we progress along, you will find that by the end of this course, you will have developed trust in me even though we've never met, even if you actually don't like me. When I was 20 years old, I was involved in a pretty horrific motorcycle accident.
I Question 170 kilometers an hour. And that's just over 100 mile an hour if you work in the old system. As you can imagine I was really busted up. Well, not long after that accident. I was picking up my brother from work one day, and he was actually working as a motorcycle mechanic. And the head mechanic was actually a retired racing professional.
His name was Barney. And he was a total character. So I walked in all busted up, and he just started laughing at me. Now, obviously, we've met before in quite a few times, so he knew he wasn't going to offend me by laughing at me. But not long after he stopped laughing. He stopped and he looked at me dead seriously, and he said this poll.
There are only three reasons why people fall off motorcycles. One, some fool in the car knocks you off, too. There is something mechanically wrong with the bike, or three. You don't possess the skills to ride the bike. At speed you were traveling. So let me ask you, Paul, was there a car involved?
To which I said no. Was there anything wrong with the bike? To which I obviously said, No. He then said, when I make you this promise, a prediction. If you don't go and learn how to ride at that speed and you do it again, it's only a matter of time do you fall off again. And next time, you may not be so lucky.
So go and learn how to ride a bike from a trained professional. So I signed up for a professional motorcycle racing course and spent most of my weekends over the next 18 months training and learning new knowledge and new theory on how to ride a motorcycle really fast to optimize my chances of success and survival in that field. Now, when I arrived at the track on the first day of the course, the instructors said basically say this to everybody goes on to a group and he said, we get a lot of guys To turn up here and think that they wine Gardner or Mick Doohan, Kevin swans, or Wayne Rooney, they were all world champions at the time. Then he said, Now I can teach you how to ride a bike to the limit. But unless you're prepared to learn, I can't teach you anything at all.
It's up to you to look at the way you ride. And then look at the way I'm going to teach you to ride and then decide which one is more likely to keep you off the bitumen. It's all up to you. Now, I'm a pretty simple kind of fella. You teach me something and tell me how to apply it. And I will.
So I listened to every word he said, and embodied every lesson he gave. And I'm very happy to say that that accident I had it 20 was the last one I've ever had. touchwood of course. So what's going to happen in this course, is you're going to be exposed to most likely very different knowledge and theories and expertise to what you currently using. And I'm not saying that mine is right or that mine is correct and that yours is not. This is not about right or wrong, you get to choose, because this is about optimizing your ability to produce predictable outcomes.
Because the better you can get at producing those predictable outcomes, the better, you'll be able to lead in all aspects of your life. And nothing happens without leadership. And please be aware that in your mind, your knowledge and theories look good. I sound good, and they totally logical and totally rational. Prior to learning how to ride a bike or motorcycle from a pro, the theory and knowledge that I possessed, seemed totally logical, seemed totally rational. It wasn't until I was exposed to a different set of knowledge a different set of experience and expertise.
Can I realize how misplaced my perception which drove my actions dictated my capabilities were. It's impossible to force anyone to learn learn anything, the learner will learn what the learner wants to learn. All I can do is expose you to the knowledge and the theories. But all I ask is that for your benefit, look at the knowledge and the theories and the results that they look at your knowledge and theories I should say, and the results that they're achieving for you. And then step outside the box and look at the thought engineering knowledge and theories and the results they will predictably produce for you predictably produce for your I should say, and then you get the choice to decide which ones will support and predictably elevate your prosperity, abundance and your freedom and which ones you want to use. It's totally in your hands.
I'm not here to force you to do anything. I'm just gonna open the door. Because once you get access to the most optimal knowledge and theories for success In business and in life, and you can recognize and make the voluntary decision to embody and apply these, everything changes, and I mean, everything. Now, the flip side of this predictability attribute is that to lead effectively, you personally want to be predictable. Human beings are naturally comfortable and gravitate towards consistency. Human beings inherently don't like change.
Now, I'm not saying that that is right or wrong. And orange, I'm saying is that the optimal method for or to do anything in life is to use the existing reality. Have you ever had a boss or partner that when you arrived at or at work or home, that you never knew what sort of mood they were going to be in good or bad? Did did that behavior, the behavior was always unpredictable. But how did that make you feel? Did it elevate your levels of competence and certainty in this person?
Did it elevate your sense of trust around this person? Did it make you feel open and expansive? Or was it suppressing a suppressive energy that, that had you permanently walking on eggshells, afraid to do anything because you might do it wrong. As the leader, you have to begin to integrate behaviors and actions that are even only at a subconscious level to your team. predictable, because once again, this predictability builds confidence, and more importantly, trust, which is the fundamental component, the the undercurrent of any successful or prosperous relationship. Now, please, don't get all hung up on this concept by thinking about making predictions or how to be predictable.
That's what thought engineering 101 is all about. As we progress, you will learn all the knowledge theories and techniques that support this fundamental component. I assure you as we go through This program you will see with total clarity how this specific component is a big part of the full picture. Remember, we're at the beginning of this journey so it won't all make sense he just be okay with understanding the basis of the principle at this point. Leadership is prediction. In the next module, we will cover the thought engineering element that will immediately increase your speed of operation in your business.
So, until we meet again in the next module, please be superbe think clearly and have an absolutely incredible day.
