Good morning, good evening, good afternoon, whatever it may be, and wherever you are in this wonderful world, I hope you're having an absolutely superb day. In today's module, we're gonna cover an immutable law that most of us are subconsciously aware of on some level, but really, the individuals move their awareness of this immutable law to to reflect their conscious behavior. And by failing to do this by by failing to understand and consciously embodying this law, they failed to optimize their productivity and every aspect of their environment, and they fail to optimize the potential of securing opportunity when it arises. Now, as a result, this reduces output and profitability, and it's the hidden source of many problems and issues that businesses needlessly have to manage. In short, it's about ensuring that you are in the prime position for success at all times and removing any hidden restraints that may be secretly impeding you.
So let's kick off. Hey, all right. Okay, so there's a download called priming for module four, and you can download it and read it later. However, I'm going to pop it up onto the screen now so that you can so we can read it together. Because the rest of this module won't make sense unless we go through that. So I'm just going to pop it up on the screen now.
Priming, a key leadership strategy. A test was devised by a clever psychologist named john bar. It's called a priming experiment. done in New York University a group of undergraduates group one will give in to scrambled sentence tests. The first one was sprinkled with words like aggressively bold, rude, bother disturbed, intruded and infringe in group to the scrambled words was sprinkled with words like respect, consider it appreciate patiently yield polite and courteous. In both cases, there weren't so many similar words that the students could pick up on what was going on.
After conducting the tests, which took approximately five minutes, the students were supposed to walk down the hall and talk to the person who was actually running the experiment in order to get their their next assignment or the next part that was going to be in the program. When the students arrived at the office bar made sure that the experimenter was always busy locked in a conversation with someone else, a confederate, who was also in on the experiment and was pretending to be a previous subject in the actual experiment itself. Now, bra wanted to know whether the people who were primed with polite words would take longer to interrupt the conversation between the experiment and the Confederate. He predicted that those who were primed pre prepared with rude words would interrupt quicker. The board that approved the experiment made it a requirement that The student not be asked to wait longer than 10 minutes.
So if the student waited and did not interrupt for 10 minutes, then the experiment ended. So the result or the outcome of it was this, that the people who were primed to be rude with the rude words, they interrupted, on average, after five minutes of the 30 for prime to be polite, 21 of them never interrupted at all. So what is this document about? It's about priming, but it's about priming, I should say correct. So what is priming? Well, it's basically preparing the students in the story, were primed for a result.
And the priming was, as you saw, very successful, but in the real world, where you and I live, the real question you need to ask yourself is when you not priming, when are you not preparing? And the answer is never. You are always priming. Let me give you a really simple example because often I teach this people, they were a little bit lost when I first begin to talk about this subject. When you get out of bed in the morning, and you brush your hair, or you don't, either way, you're priming how the world will receive you, and how it will judge you. And that applies to every single thing you do.
The world is judging you on your appearance, your intelligence, your trustworthiness, your ability to perform absolutely everything. So, if you're always priming and understand that you don't get a you don't get a choice. And if you don't get a vote, it's an immutable law, which means it's unchanging and happens whether you know better or not. So you might as well understand it and get ahead of it. I mean, even right now, I'm priming you. You think you're learning one thing, and you are absolutely, but I'm also priming you for the bigger lessons, the bigger picture on prompting you to be to be as awake as possible as to what is about to come in the rest of the modules.
I'm priming you. Anyway, back to the point. So if you're always priming, then what are you your actions, your behavior, your attitude, your appearance, your knowledge, every single thing saying out to the world. So what you have to fully grasp is this. Every single thing space now, whether you're a business owner, leader, coach, parent, whatever, it doesn't matter Every single thing speaks. And whether you like it or not, you're being judged consciously or substance or subconsciously, I should say, on everything related to you.
Now, I'm not saying that that's either right or wrong, it just is. So if every single thing speaks, what are your actions, behaviors, appearance, your knowledge, your services saying about you? What are they saying to your staff, your customers, your kids, your friends, your family, everyone? What is speaking about you in a way that you you don't want it to? What are you accepting in your environment that is speaking volumes about you in a way that isn't serving you. Now, I've included an exercise at the end of this module to help you with this because answering those questions, and then making the necessary changes can alter your productivity and your prosperity exponentially off the charts.
But just before we get to that a lot to share a short story with you to illustrate this. In the year 2000, I started my finance company. In the decade I was involved with that company on a day to day basis, I can count on two hands, the number of days that I was not the first person in the office, excluding obviously, when I was away on business or on holidays, obviously they don't care. Every day that I arrived, I was cleanly shaven, well dressed and ready for action. I didn't take long lunches or spend time on the phone with my friends, or get involved in activities that were not any interest of the company's profitability and prosperity. And eight times out of 10.
I would be the last person out of that office. My work ethic was utterly visible. Now, I don't tell you that to impress you. I have no need or desire to do that. I tell you that to illustrate the principle that every single thing speaks You cannot lead from the back of the pack. Because I was aware of this principle and acted in line with this without me ever having to say a single word.
We never had an issue with our team being at work on time, we never had an issue with our team not performing at work and we never had an issue with our team's focus and commitment. Now, this example is just just scraping the surface of the actions that I take in line with this principle. However, these specific actions spoke volumes. And everyone in the team knew without me needing to say a single word pulls on time, so I better be Paul's always dressed well, so I better be Paul's highly focused and committed so I better be this awareness and everything speaks bread equality through the organization and an optimal preparedness for opportunity collection when it uppy when customers enter their premises, On any space that we were in, they knew without even asked me to say a word that this was a quality organization, and that there was little of any question on our ability to deliver incredible service and exactly what those customers wanted.
You see, it's easy to not watch everything and be unremarkable. That's easy. But do you want to be just a little bit better than the next guy? Or do you want to optimize and be incredible, because that's what thought engineering is about. I know it takes effort and persistence to commit to to excellence, but the rewards are extraordinary. You only get one opportunity to make a first impression, and you never know when that opportunity will present itself.
So optimize your position now in advance and be prepared to collect at all times when that opportunity presents. itself. Now, today's module is shorter than a number of the other ones because there's a small exercise at the end that I actually like you to complete when we're done so however, please don't make the mistake of thinking that because this is a short video, that the LM this L of this particular element of thought engineering is any less important than the rest because I assure you that would be an error. The video is short simply because the principle is uncomplicated. Every single thing space. So what are you your actions, your your behavior, your attitude, your appearance, your knowledge, everything?
What are they saying to the world? And what are they saying? That is or should I say is what they saying supporting or suppressing your prosperity? Now, this exercise, it may be easy for you, or it may be difficult, but you can either ask yourself these questions and take the bull by the horns, or decide to live as a consequence of choosing ignorance. It's completely up to you. Remember this, remember, this is an immutable law, you don't get a vote on it, it's going to happen whether you like it or not, so get ahead of it get ahead of the game. In module four, we're going to we're going to define the concept of quality so you can begin to build this element into every aspect of your business.
