Hello, and welcome to the first topic in this module, we're going to be looking at removing your fear of quitting. So the first question to answer would be, what is the fear of quitting? I'm going to answer this with an example from my personal experience. So when I wanted to stop smoking, I spent the majority of my years as a smoker telling people how much I loved being a smoker. I would argue the case for smokers rights to have somewhere to go and still be allowed to smoke in bars and pubs and places like that. So when I came to the point I wanted to stop.
I had a massive barrier to overcome. As I couldn't see myself as a nonsmoker. I really had it ingrained in my head that I was a smoker and proud of it. I was scared to be anything else. I feared I would end up losing a part of my identity or a trait that made up who I was. Even a part of my personality.
I had successfully conditioned myself to the point of being unable to see how I could ever be a nonsmoker. Again, on top of that, I had a fear of failure. And I thought, what if I couldn't do it because the thought of not smoking again filled me with panic. And I was taking away something that I genuinely thought that I really enjoyed. If you have all this fear of what your life will be like, if you stop or a fear of failure, you'll end up starting again, or worse, not at all. So by having this fear, all you're doing is holding yourself back from your new life.
So the first step to removing your fears about stopping smoking are to understand what they actually are. So I'm going to ask you to either grab a pen and a piece of paper or your phone or just even take some time to think and reflect and ask yourself what your own personal fears of quitting actually are. And can you see yourself as a nonsmoker? If not, why not? What's the reason for it? Feel free to pause this video and come back to it if you need to.
So I'm going to run through the How to remove or reduce the fear from your quitting journey. First of all, we're going to look at the fear of failure. So you worried you won't be able to stop. It's okay to feel that way. I don't know anyone who doesn't feel this way, at least a little. The one thing you need to think about is that you're not depriving yourself from anything.
You're embracing your former nonsmoker himself. So you're not taking anything away. You're actually taking back your health and even giving yourself a boost to your finances. Which also leaves you with a fear of being with Without the panic thoughts setting, you don't know what you're going to do in a situation stressful or whatever your usual trigger points is for smoking. facing this fear is about realizing that it's all in your own mind and telling you that you can't have one. When the truth is, you don't even want or need one.
It's all about being aware of this fear so you can overcome it. And if you can't overcome it, you can at least start to reduce it and the more you reduce it, eventually you'll overcome it. Another big one is fear of gaining weight. This is not something to be fearful of, because you're not going to want to smoke. Therefore, you're not going to want to substitute it with food or anything else. You're simply going to live a happy non smoking life.
So those are the fears that most people experience. As one more thing I would like to mention, as you squash your fears of stopping You do need to believe that you could stop. I believe you can. But you really need to believe in yourself. This is very important because if you don't believe that you can stop, then you truly won't. And you will, you may stop for a short time, but it will return, I believe without a doubt that you can and will do this.
Not only do I believe in you, I also know that you can do it without pain, without willpower, or without any substitutes, you really can do this. You just need to make sure that you understand what your fears are. And then you can put in place a way to overcome them, reduce them, or completely remove them. So to sum up, we've looked at what the fear of quitting actually is. And I've asked you to work out what your own fears are. And then I've covered just a couple of ways in which you can remove or reduce phase.
So on that note, that's all on removing fear. At least now you're more aware that you actually have a fear of quitting and what you can do to help remove that. So, on that note, it's time to move on to the next topic. I'll see you there bye for now.
