So now that you have a better understanding of what lead generation is, and how this business works, and how you can potentially build your own online lead generation business, I want to talk a bit about how to actually get your first client, right? And then they, you can, you can have an understanding of the entire business. But if you don't know, if you don't have a client, then nothing makes sense. All right. So let's let's dive right into it. There's probably at least 15 different ways of getting a client, right, but then they all comes down to is, you know, you putting yourself out there and trying to get understand people's pain points and trying to solve their problems.
I would say there's a lot more than 15. But I'm going to cover about seven kind of mainstream ways and some unique ways of doing it as well. And hopefully this will get your creative juices going and you can think about how you can get clients in your own way as well. So getting a client the very, very first place you should start is always people you already know. So for example, if your friend is a realtor, then you know, by all means reach out to them and see if they're interested in getting more leads as a realtor, or if you're already going to a dentist and you know, that would be a great place to start and develop a rapport with them and see if they're looking to drive more customers and patients. Right, if you have a lawyer that you know, really, really, as I mentioned, in the previous video, all businesses really need leads.
It's just a matter of whether or not their capacity already, or if they're doing the marketing themselves already, right. That's where you have to really reach out to people and see where there might be a fit. How I caught my first clients is through people I knew. So again, I really stress that this is really the first place that you should be going to, and if you know, let's say maybe you have some friends that let's say on Facebook, where you haven't talked To them in a while, then one thing that you could do, let's say you don't know that they're a realtor, then you can just post on Facebook saying like, Hey, I'm looking for a realtor to drive leads to, does anyone know one that you know I can, I can help out. Right? That That would be an example.
So the second one that I've also had a lot of success in getting client clients from is Craigslist. So if you're not familiar with Craigslist, Craigslist is a place where a lot of people can post their needs, if they're selling something, if they want someone if they if they want specific services, like if you want to create a website and you can go to Craigslist and get something potentially for cheap. Really, there's a lot of things that you can do here. I'm going to show you what that looks like right now. So this is Craigslist. I'm in Los Angeles website right now, right?
So you can see that you know, you can look at housing, you can look at jobs, there's four things for sale, you can discuss things and there's also services as well. So let's just say for a second that we were looking for a wedding photographer client, right? So go here, wedding photographer, right wedding photographer and services, right? And here, there's a whole list of people that are advertising their wedding photography services, right? So let's, there's so much to choose from here. And this is only for Los Angeles, right?
Obviously, you can go to Boston, you can look at just a whole bunch of other cities. And until you find a company really compile that entire list of people that you want to reach out to you. Right, so this is how you would do it. Let's just say for a second I want to go through with this person, right. So this person has a website, I would go to their website. Um, so if you do want to reply, email them directly.
You can use the the ear, this Craigslist email that they provide here. Um, but what I would typically do do is I would go if they have a website that's listed here, probably just go to the website. Right? And then see, contact us. Okay, so in this case, they don't have a, an email. So I would just go with the email that shows goes as shown right here, or I would even if you're someone who is very comfortable with cold calling, then this is what this would be another option.
But yeah, I would send a cold email to this person, if I don't find an email that I can use directly here, right. So that's one way of reaching out to people. And of course, this extends to a lot of other services as well, right? Let's say you're looking for realtors, let's say you're looking for, I don't know, dentists or financial planners, right? There's a lot of things that you can look in here and potentially find your niche that you want to target. So the next one is Facebook groups.
So this let me go back into presentation mode. So the next one is Facebook groups, there's a lot of potential here. Um, the reason I say that is because there are a lot of groups where people have already expressed an interest in something specific. And you just need to go in there and find those people right there. There's two ways right one you can find people who are all expressing an interest in what in one thing, and then reaching out to those people or you can find specific pages and then you can reach out to those people. So what do I mean by that?
Again, so this is my, this is my fake Facebook account. So let's say for a second that I wanted to look for wedding photography again. Alright, so I already This is one person So this, this is a company, right? So I could go through the website, I could see where they are. But I'm probably going to go over here. Okay, so this person has a phone number that could call.
So again, if you want to cold call, then that's what I would do. I remember seeing a bit more. So there's a whole bunch of groups here, right? exclusively for wedding photographers. So this this one you might not be able to join. But some of these you wouldn't be able to answer and basically find and establish yourself as kind of a thought leader or a leader in the wedding photography space.
So some of these people do. Let's look at this person. So yeah, so this person has an email right here, right. And what you could also do is you can check if someone is running Facebook ads or not. If you go here to info and ads, you can see that this person is not running anything. So this could be a really good opportunity to reach out to this person and see if they would be interested in running Facebook or having you run their Facebook ads.
Right, that's where the opportunity is. And really, this obviously takes some time but as you build out a list of people to to reach out to or email then you can just kind of hammer that that in one setting as opposed to like, you know, finding the person and calling them right now. It's better to just compile everything into a sheet. Whether it be an Excel sheet or just you know, read something you write down. It's good to do it all at once. So top people you know, Craigslist Facebook groups, and then the two classic ones are cold calling and cold emailing right.
This really just comes down to You know, googling, let's say wedding photographers, and then compiling an entire list there, right? Just you know, pick up the phone, or call a whole bunch of people see if they're interested, or see if they need kind of marketing services help to really expand the business. I'm going to go over a little bit more about you know, how to address these things, and how to really show that your, what you're, what you're offering is actually really valuable. So that you'll be a little bit more prepared in your call. But also, again, you can refer back to the previous lectures with you know what exactly you're offering what, what exactly your value is in this business. Very cold emailing is another thing.
Definitely not dead. Just reach out to hold on to people. As I mentioned, you can do that through Craigslist, or through Facebook groups, and so on. So meetups, so this is a different way. This is one that I would recommend as well. But you know, there are mixed results with this.
So if you're not familiar with meetup meetup is a A website where you can join groups and join events and really meet, get to meet people and connect with people. And this is a great opportunity for you to connect with business owners, small business owners small to medium business owners, and help them with their marketing. Right. So what does that look like? Right, so this is meetup.com is what it looks like. Let's say I'm searching for something in Los Angeles and I search on entrepreneur, right?
Then I can see a whole bunch of these events. Um, let's say I'm looking for small businesses, business owners, right. Right. Maybe I want to attend some of these events, digital marketing strategy for small businesses, right. Chances are, you're going to get a lot of people, a small lot of small businesses attending these things who are looking to learn more about marketing, but you know, you have to have taking this course you know a lot, probably a lot more than most of the people attending that event. So you can definitely, you know, connect with people and see how you can help them and potentially close them as a client, right?
Again, this is this, this does have mixed results from time to time, it does require that you know, you'll be also very sociable and like, you know, I'm trying to meet people and trying to understand their pain points and try to solve those, see how you can solve them right? But this is definitely an avenue worth considering as well. And then lastly, door to door, right? door door is a classic one. And so what I mean by door to door is actually going to a clinic let's say right, let's say they're you're shopping around and once you have you you pass by a dental clinic that just recently opened you know, that would be a great opportunity for you to just walk into like, Hey, I know you guys just opened Are you looking to Have marketing work done and and drive more leads for your business?
Right? Obviously you perfect that pitch so that you're able to do it effectively within 30 seconds. But the idea is that, you know, if you really want to get this hammered down, this would be another way to do it. So yeah, so again, these are just seven different ways that you can do, you can find your clients. Again, I recommend number one, and number two, number three, actually, which number four, number five, kind of tie in to the first three. But the idea is that you always want to be reaching out to people, as many people as you can.
People, you know, again, performs best because there's already that established connection, um, and also with cold calling cold emailing. The other thing that I would say is that there you have to put in a lot of effort, right? You can't just call one person once and if they say they're busy, then you have to make sure you keep calling that person right call them next time the next day and days or whatnot, cold emailing, exact same thing. If you're gonna email one person, chances are you're gonna need to email them multiple times, right? You're gonna put them through, say, a three day email period, where the first day you email them. And then three days later you email them in three days after that you email them again.
This is actually how I caught a lot of my clients through a lot of persistence. So with that being said, you know, hang in there, finding a client is not easy. I've been through that I know what that's like. Me personally, I'm not, I'm not a huge fan of sales. I can do it, but it's not something that I enjoy. A lot of people are better than me.
So what I'm saying is that if I can, if I can do sales and get clients, you can definitely do it. You just really have got to hang in there and just try to connect with as many people as you can and make sure you perfect your pitch and understanding what you what you can deliver and What value you stand for? So with that being said, I'll see you in the next video, I'm going to be going over more about you know how to understand your value, why your why your services are actually valuable, and actually how to close your clients. So I'll see you in the next lesson.
