So welcome back. So in this module, we're going to talk about spaced repetition. So when it comes to language learning, what I found was experimentation of learning French and Spanish and Italian. The best case scenario for me was to be consistent each day on my learning. So I found that it was better to actually study 15 to 20 minutes a day, consistently each day, at least six days a week. Rather than spending two hours once a week learning, I just found the principle of consistency builds momentum better, it builds more confidence.
And I think you actually learn better as well when you space it out. When it comes to actually learning the words or the phrases, a good tool that I've used in the past has been Anki. So with Anki, you can put in the word or the phrase in your target language, the language of learning, or and you can put it into your native language, it also will be two sides of the same flashcard. So there's a great feature within Anki where it will test you more and the ones you're getting wrong more frequently than it will on the ones we're getting. Right. So that just fills in more consistency, more repetition.
And over time you start seeing that the ones you're getting wrong, you're getting right because of the repetition deliberate practice element of things. With this, I've also found to make it fun for yourself. So with the Anki, I find learning new words in the flashcard system quite boring, quite monotonous. So what I did, I listened to music while I was doing it, I found that it wasn't that cognitively demanding to learn new words and new phrases. So I used to listen to music when I would learn new words. And that's the same approach as well today, if I have to learn a bunch of new words or a bunch of phrases, listen to music while I do it.
Because that way, my mind is associated with music, something I enjoy doing quite a lot, listen to music, and that means that I'll be less procrastinating about it. So that was just a hack that I found. So the key with this thing is to make it fun for yourself as well at the same time as using principles that will optimize your Learning. So I hope this has been helpful for you. In the next video, we're going to talk about optimizing your learning time by going from the general to the specific. We'll talk more about that on the next video.
See you then
