Behind her feelings, there might be nothing but behind every principle there is a promise. So this is a quote from a guy called Eric Thomas which has really stuck with me. It's really helped me in times of emotional turmoil when I've been fixated on my feelings, and believing that getting to the root of my feelings would give me a solution. When I think of this quote, it gets back to principles, and in particular, we're going to talk about the principle of focus. So in a moment, it might seem subtle and almost meaningless. But focus plays a huge part in how your language learning journey turnout and how your life will turn out in general.
When it comes to focus, there's a cognitive bias in the brain called the negativity bias. I came across the cognitive biases from a guy called Ty Lopez. People like Warren Buffett also talk about this it's good to be aware of this is brain science and explains why it's so easy to focus on the negatives moreso than it is on the positive for my own life. I've experienced whenever I get feedback when I wasn't aware it is, my tendency would be to focus on a negative even if I had 95% positive feedback, I would focus on that 5% and not in a good way in a more fixated and, and not constructive way. With the principle of focus, you want to become more aware of where your focus and attention is going. This will help you to expand what you do want the results you do want, it'll help you to grow.
I've got a sheet which explains actual 25 cognitive biases that are in the brain, it's useful to be aware of this is simple brain science that will make you more aware of why we jump to conclusions why we've got flawed logic, it helps you to think more clearly and to think more logically and rationally. There's another exercise I want you to do, too, that is effective is simply to write out what you want to focus on each day. spend anywhere between three to 15 minutes doing this everyday, daily. It was get you into the habit of writing down what you want from your life, what you want to focus on, I'd recommend writing to it has been studies proven that when you write something down, it reinforces the message, the message to you, so I'd recommend using that. So that's basically the principle of focus. When you start paying attention to what you're focusing on, you'll start realizing that it has a huge impact on how your language learning is gonna go.
It'll help you accelerate your language learning No. And when you're focusing on the positives when you're focusing on what you do know and you're focusing on learning the lessons from the software can be a bit negative. So I hope this helps when it comes to languages when it comes to your feelings. Focus on principles more so than you do on the emotions, especially the emotions that can drag you down and not help us make any progress in the language. So on the next video, we are going to talk about the difference between focusing on meaning and focusing on specific words. So see you in the next video.
