Welcome back. So in this video we're going to talk about verb tenses and leveraging the infinitive, to make verb tenses easier for you. So when it comes to verb tenses I remember when I was learning French the first time that I was quite overwhelmed looking at a verb book and seeing 12 or 13 different verb tenses that I taught I needed to learn. When it came to Spanish and Italian, I knew I didn't want to approach it this way. So I asked myself a different question. I asked myself, What verb tenses oil use day to day in French that if I didn't know I would struggle in the language.

So when I asked myself this question, I started to realize that there was four different verb tenses that if I didn't know them, I would struggle in my day to day speech. So these are the four four different verb tenses I would pick out 20 to 30 of the most commonly used verbs, verbs like to be to want to do these types of are the day to day every day. I would learn them the present tense only to begin with, and I would start speaking using these present tense verbs, I would use the present tense to describe the past tense And whatever you need to describe, this has got a knock on effect of helping you to overcome this perfection idea that can hold a lot of people back from speaking and practicing. So the more you get over this tendency for perfection, the more practice you're going to get in as a beginner, the better you're going to get into language, the more feedback gonna get.

Once you've mastered the present tense of 20, to 30 verbs, I would move on to the past tense, tense. So now you're going to describe the past tense more accurately, you're no longer making the mistakes you're making. When you're using the present tense to describe everything you're noticing in the past tense. If you think of it like a baby, this is kind of the approach a baby would use. A baby just wants to functionally speak and as they develop, and as you get more feedback from their environment are going to improve and describe things more accurately. So that is a good approach to take because you're getting in practice, you're getting repetition, and you'll speak quicker.

The next verb tense then will be the future tense again, learn same 20 to 30 verbs, this time in the future tense, the future tense, you can actually get around if you want to. I'll give you an example here like in French you can say GIF a la or you can say is your a, they both mean I will go somewhere in the future. So I will go is during and then I gv LA is basically I will go for using the infinitive la instead of the conjugation jury in the future. The last four tenths I would learn then would be the imperfect tense. So when it comes to the Latin languages, they've got a way of describing the past called the imperfect. There's a whole bunch of rules that will help you distinguish between the past simple and the imperfect tense.

One rule that comes to mind for me is that the imperfect tense is used to describe something that happens in the past, but hasn't finished yet. So it's a it's a continuous process. And in the past, simple is or something to happen once in the past. It's done it's over with. So there's a whole bunch of other rules I recommend giving them a read, but that's the main rule that takes in my head. The thing is with this is that the more practice repetition you get in you start realizing that the world rules aren't that important when you're getting in that practice and repetition in the real world.

So if you think about your native language, I've forgotten a lot about the actual rules to English but I can speak English well because day to day I'm speaking it I've got that muscle memory and it sounds off if I say something weird in English that is grammatically incorrect or just isn't right. So this is the level you want to get to speaking anyway. So the idea is to get speaking from day one, get a lot of practice repetition in and take on feedback and improve and adjust that deliberate practice and action. So we can actually avoid for our conjugations entirely to begin with, if this is what you want to do with these sentences that I have come up with here. So the first one is your food drink. So I would like you can say is your food your alley, I would like to go to food resort to I would like to go out to the food read army or I would like to sleep as you see here you're just using Giroux Dre with the infinitives of the verbs.

In order to describe something that you want to do, the next one is your dwa. So dwa is I have to if you want to say this you can say, Mr. Shea I have to walk through the lingerie. I have to play should walk cuisine I have to cook. The last example I'm gonna give you a Chevy. So Chevy, marshy. Like if a alley, like I mentioned before, I would like to go to Jimmy Marshall to go, I gotta walk.

Visually, I got to play Gervais Cassini, I go to cook. So once you start seeing this way of thinking, and seeing languages, I want to encourage you to play with yourself, it's gonna make you more creative, it's gonna make you enjoy the process a lot more, the more you enjoy it, the better you're gonna get. These are simple ways to get you into the language is basically simplifying the process lowering the barrier to entry so you can speak from day one getting more practice than the average language learner and that way you're going to improve a lot quicker than the average language learner. So thanks for watching and the next video we're going to talk about how to set effective SMART goals as a language learner.
