Do you ever say to yourself or out loud, I just don't have enough time. I just don't have the time to get this done. There's too much to do. Well, most of us say that kind of thing. In fact, we do live in a busy world. One of my favorite authors, Andre now and says this, he said the two words the two words the best define our age are filled and unfulfilled.
Our lives are increasingly filled up with activity with all sorts of things we need to be involved in and yet we're increasingly unfulfilled. Well, my hope for you particularly when it comes to dealing with stress they use stressful way as you develop a right perspective toward time is that you will understand that you can focus in on that Those important things, those things that really count, and live a life that's less filled, and more fulfilled, not filled up and unfulfilled. So in this particular module, I want to cover two major things. The first thing is just to talk about time, what is it, and two types of time that I'll explain to you. And I'll do that in this particular session. In the next session, I want to focus in on helping you understand those things that are important in your life, and how you need to focus in on the things that are important, not just the things that are urgent, and I'm going to give you a tool or technology to do do that.
But let's start off by just talking about time. You know, we really all have the same amount of time in the sense that there are 365 days in a year. We know every day has 24 hours in the day and that leaves us with about 1700 and 65 in change hours in a year, and that's the time we have, it's going to come and then once it's come, it'll go. And we're really here I believe on this earth to invest our time wisely as well as our other resources, our talents and our finances and other resources that we bring to the table. But as we focus in on time, I want to help you understand how you can spend your time the best way and how you can, how you can focus properly on time by especially focusing in on the important things are those things that count.
So, in this particular opening session, I want to make the distinction about two different types of time. And the Greek language there are two words for time one is Chronos, the other is Kairos. Now the word Chronos is the word from which we get the concept of chronology. Think of it is sequential time. It's more of the Greek mindset of time. That's where we do things in a decently and orderly way.
That's why we practice time management. We're trying to maximize those, those timeframes that we have to get as much done as we can get done. And we want to do it with excellence. And that's a good thing that's dealing with events is dealing with calendar, it's dealing with chronology time, typified by a watch, or a, a timepiece that explains the importance of time. That's an important type of time. But often when we talk about dealing with time, and the thing that tends to cause greatest distress, is that we don't, we only think of Chronos.
And I want you to think about the second type of, of time in the Greek language and that's the word Kairos. Now Kairos, which is more of a Hebraic mindset. It means more of the concept of the moment or the hour. opportunity. So it's not just watching my my timepiece for the time or looking at my app to see what time it is, and trying to do things in short bursts, which I think are important, by the way and helpful. But instead, it's learning to be able to instead, deal with the moment learn to buy up the opportunity.
And my contention is, every moment of every day is filled with opportunities. And what I want you to learn here is the joy and fulfillment of looking at your life and looking at your day and not just going by the clock to get as much done as quickly as you can get it done as important and helpful. Instead, though, I want you to think of the Kairos time of living in the moment of buying up the opportunity. And it could be a number of things. It could be something like you're simply tired, so you need to stop and take a little rest or a nap or close your eyes. Or you're muddled in your thinking and you need to stop and meditate or pray or simply think it might mean that you buy up the opportunity to not move on something tactically, but move strategically and stop and think strategically wisely about how you should proceed.
Perhaps you've seen a person in need, and you simply share with them a good word, or you see a child who's hurt and you reach down to help them. Perhaps a moment is driving and traffic and someone cutting you off and you stop simply to appreciate that person and appreciate your life and not get all upset and frustrated. There's so many ways we can buy up the opportunity we can use a moment, but here's what I know for sure. Most of the issues related to time for me, is focused not on my schedule, but it's in the moment. Many of the greatest things in my life day in and day out and the great discoveries in the great adventure. happen in the moment.
So I want you to learn how to deal with a moment. So here's what I want you to do. In this particular session, I want you to think about chronology Chronos time, and I want you to think about Kairos time, we're going to give you a tool that's in your resource center, that's a T bar again, Chronos time on the one side Kairos time on the other side, and I want you to make a list as your action step of this last week, and the kinds of things you did on Chronos time you know, the projects you worked on the schedules you worked on the way you were running around to get things done. And then I want you to think about the moments or the opportunities you had, that you may have grabbed or miss but write down every opportunity you can think of you had every moment.
Again, it could be just a moment to stop and breathe or to be appreciative of what's around you and the beauty around you or to stop and think or process or pray or do whatever is key in the moment. But I want you to make a list of both of those and think about those and start processing and thinking about how you live in the moment on the one hand, and the Kairos time, or according to the chronology, the time sheets, the activities on the other hand Kronos. And I think you're going to find this to be a very exciting adventure. So I look forward to you in the next session, which is really our only other session in this particular module, where I want to focus in on how you learn to distinguish what's important and how you learn to focus your time and energy on the important not just the urgent or the unimportant, but the important things in life.
Let's go
