The first solo in Freddy kings washout starts out with a phrase like this, we're going to be playing at first, over the first position g blue Xbox, but just like the sad night out, eventually we're going to move into the second, blue, Xbox and beyond. Again, we've got some really cool licks in this solo. To solve this. Let's take the first one. He starts out from the turnaround of the previous first and he launches into this leg. And that is a typical Freddy King lick one more time.
And what I'm doing is starting out, I'm using two fingers on the third string, and I'm usually mainly using my ring finger to band up the third string at the fifth fret. And then I'm going to kind of drag my pick down with my first finger on the third fret of the second and first strings, we've got this and then I'm gonna go to a long band on the second string six frets That constraint, just kind of choke it off. Like that. So one more time. There's the first phrase of the first solo for wash up. And the second phrase, he's gonna take that, something real similar to what he just played and just extend it a little bit, it goes like this.
Really cool. So what I'm doing here, instead of choking, then I'm gonna play through the sixth fret of the second string to the third fret. That's the first part of it. So we're going that same second first string, third fret, sixth fret, third fret, second string. You get that and then he's going to this Quick bend on the fifth fret of the third string to the third fret of the second string, this kind of like Chuck Berry ish t bone Walker type thing. So Freddy, use this lick a lot and his solos that he's gonna do this is a really cool lick, I'm gonna bend up on the fifth fret of the third string.
And then right as I'm getting to the top of the band, I'm gonna go quickly to the third fret of the third string and then bend up again. without picking this is something Freddy did a lot. The third fret, third string, ended up on the fifth fret of the fourth string. So let's take the whole solo what we have so far really neat stuff And then the third phrase, he's going to do this. Like that, and what I hear is he's doing going from the third fret to the fourth fret on the third string of a hammer on to the third fret of the second string, third fret of the first string. So instead of bending into that sixth fret, third fret, we've done this before, second string, and then a band.
So like this. One more time, I'll try to play that slowly. And that is the next phrase that he's gonna have that ban he just spent up to conclude the last phrase and he's gonna bend Three more time. Then go from the third fret of the second string, fifth fret of the third string third fret, wind up on the fifth fret of the fourth string. So that whole list goes like this played slowly. Typical Freddie King thing using the band to lead into a lick in the first blues box.
So that's the next phrase of the solo. Now he's gonna go into something a little more complex, and I'm just gonna play the whole thing and then we'll break it down into two phrases. Pretty awesome. So what I'm doing here, this time I hear him bending like we did at the beginning of the solo. Playing that lick which we've done before. Now he's going to go into this descending thing.
So the whole lick so far. Let's get that part of it down first. So we've got this. Now we're gonna do this sixth fret, first string third fret to the fifth fret of the first string. First three notes are all on the first string, and then fifth fret of the second string. And then third fret of the first string.
Six, three on the second string. Get that down. So the whole thing so far, that part so we're getting this is really cool stuff and a lot of these ideas like this Freddy uses a lot. So you get it down here. And then as we move into some of the other instrumentals, you'll know this stuff, you'll be able to figure it out right away, he's gonna come out of this, then do another one of these bands, where he winds up on the third fret of the second string. Then he's gonna do a couple bands on the fifth fret of the third string.
Then he's gonna go 35335 on the third string, fifth fret of the fourth string, back to the third fret of the third string, so the whole thing on the fifth fret of the third string, like that, so it got pull off, five, three, on the third string, fifth fret. The forestry did the same thing. Going to the third fret of the third string, pull off five, three on the fourth string winding up on the fifth fret this parts a little tricky. Check the tab. Let me play it again slowly from this that's more in context to what he's playing. So all this is in the first position, blue Xbox and that's one of the great things about Freddy kings playing is he could come up with so many creative ideas and this relatively simple position and then he couldn't go into this leg which is really cool stuff.
So this part this is a typical Freddy King lick third fret, fourth fret third string, three, five seconds. wind up on the third fret of the first string. We're gonna band up once on the fret of the first string and then it's gonna come down and then twice like that one more time.
