Okay, so this is a very personal business. And I want you to think very deeply about this. Why do you want to start a successful business? Or why do you want your business to grow and become successful? Do you want to make a lot of money? Or do you want to become happy?
I think it's a personal journey, as much as a business journey because people can lose sight of what is important to them very, very easily done. I have a very personal list of do's and don'ts that have helped me in my time in the last 10 years, to become more productive, and to build a successful business. I don't watch any TV and I don't read or watch or consume any news. I believe there's nothing in the news every day that contains Important information that will help me or anyone else I know. If I need business news that affects me directly, I will have access to that other news is either irrelevant or unimportant to me. Now this goes against what we are told culturally in society.
At the moment, however, I make no apologies for this, I would find that my energy has increased through avoiding the news. News may make you depressed or angry or something like that. And it will take away your energy and it's not providing you with any benefits. So don't spend time with negative people. If you know someone who consistently tells you that you're stupid, or that you are unsuccessful, you will never be successful and you know To start a business, or that the only people who start businesses and are successful in business are rich people are lucky people are bad people. If you know anyone who says that sort of thing consistently and puts you down consistently, then if you can, try to engage with that person as little as possible in the future, if people tell you things time and time and time again, you will start believing, and that's why it's important not to spend any time with people who indulge in that sort of behavior.
Now, the next point is really important. Do you ever see a successful business person complain about something? Usually the successful people when something goes wrong, of course, things will always go wrong. They usually just get up and work out a solution rather than Going to blame, complain, or even judge someone or something. Now, I'm not saying that I'm perfect, and I never do this myself. But blaming banks, governments, other companies, Google Facebook, about something bad that has happened to your business will not solve any problems for you.
It won't make you feel better, it may. It may make you feel better for five seconds, but it will actually just increase negativity. And so all we're trying to do here is to increase positivity. And in the same way, don't blame, complain or charge yourself, things will go wrong, you will make mistakes as I say the next natural reaction once a mistake has been made, or once something goes wrong, would be to do something about it to find the solution. So putting your energies into finding the solution, rather than blaming, complaining, judging Other people or yourself, and all of this is about positivity. So if you find yourself thinking a negative thought, like this business won't work, I'm bad at this, this will never happen, then don't have a go at yourself.
Just observe the thought. And then put your attention back to the present moment. And what you have to do, and forget that you ever thought that thoughts that don't give it any energy. This is a load of habits that you will improve upon as the years go past. And so those were all the don'ts. Here are the do's.
And these are things I've done at various moments that have helped me there will be different things people do for self improvement, but I urge you to do whatever works for you in the self improvement sphere, and to do it regularly, like every day, yoga, tai chi, meditate Exercise are excellent examples of these. So instead of watching the news, you can substitute the bad time with educational or inspirational materials. So, by all means watch a movie, a good TV series, a good documentary for your downtime, but don't obviously, watch industry, TV. And definitely don't watch the news. The next one you're going to say will be happy. That's pretty obvious.
I would argue that it's not obvious a lot of people lose sight of their happiness with all the thousands of things that are going on in their life. And when you're an entrepreneur, there are thousands and thousands of things that you have to do. So don't lose sight of what makes you happy. If your business isn't making you happy, then see if you can change it. So it does make you happy. Be grateful for the things that are going well.
And the benefits you have in your life. It's very easy to take them for granted. But the more grateful you are for what's good in your life, the better your life will become. And the last one that be helpful, this is so important for entrepreneurship. Business is almost just about being helpful to people. If you have time, try to be as helpful as possible.
And don't expect anything back in return. All successful business people have helped people freely at some point, courses a limit to what they can do, and there's limits of what you can do, but you know the limits and if you can be helpful to someone, then do so. You will never know how successful that person will become in a few years, and they may feel inclined to reciprocate and very often they will do you'll be surprised surprised at the benefits you'll get from being helpful. So don't listen to me. This is personal advice. But I really hope this helps you, on your journey, give you some sort of ideas of what you can do your own personal do's and don'ts that will free up your energy and get you to become more creative, more productive in your life and in your business.
So follow your own heart on this one. But I hope this helps. I find it useful to employ the characteristics of a successful person. Do you expect a successful person to spend their time gossiping and watching TV? I love this quote by the Dalai Lama. So when you talk to someone, you're repeating on what you already know.
So talking to someone and saying things that aren't of any benefits to that person will not benefit you. But if you listen You may learn something. And listening is a skill that I think we could all improve upon. A couple more things that helped me stay productive. Now, some days are terrible, some days will be very difficult because some days you won't get out of your inbox, you'll have so many things to do. You can't see the wood for the trees.
But I find it's good when you're especially busy to make sure you get one good thing done every day. So when I am writing a book, I make sure come what may I will write 750 words that day, every day until I finished the book. 750 words might take me an hour, so I'll have an hour to do that. And then it's done. Another example would be to record five minutes of video, record an edit that might take an hour as well. Another example would be to email at least five suppliers to find a product that you want to source.
You know something that takes An hour that gets you closer to your goal. And make sure you do that until that task has done. And in the same way, you could set tasks that you want to do every week. So you could try and write in your blog every other week, and create a YouTube video every other week as well. So you could do that on alternate weeks. But one thing for one hour every day and one thing for one hour every week, that gets you closer to where you want to be.
I find that is a huge great tip, a personal tip for productivity. I hope you enjoyed these tips. Very important, very important that you concentrate on your personal development in becoming a better person, happier person that therefore performs more productively and more creatively within your business to become successful.
