Let's begin by revisiting the competency categories and understand their role in achieving performance outcomes. Knowledge and contextual knowledge, which comprise facts, concepts, processes, procedures, or guidelines are enabling competencies to achieve performance outcomes. Typically, these are at a lower cognitive or difficulty level of learning. While skill, which includes a range of task related abilities, is the direct competency required to perform and is at a higher cognitive and difficulty level of learning. Given the wastage of skill for successful performance, and its difficulty level of learning, this competency needs to be given more attention in the learning strategy. Now, let's break down 70 2010 to derive appropriate learning modes for the three competency categories.

70 Are experiential learning. This is where learning happens on the job as a result of facing challenges and performing the task in a self directed manner. Since the mood is learning by doing as part of the daily workflow, it is best suited for developing the skill competencies that are at moderate difficulty level 20 or social learning. This is where learning happens through observing, sharing, collaborating or mentoring with experts and peers. Since this mode relies on gaining knowledge from others and benefits from collective intelligence, it is best suited for developing the knowledge and contextual knowledge competencies and for enhancing skill competencies 10 or formal learning. This is where learning happens through structured and formal training programs.

The least amount of learning takes place through this mode as it is outside the world. flow. At the same time. This mode has the maximum flexibility to design learning, and therefore is best suited for developing the difficulty level of skill competencies. Do note this is only a generic mapping of 70 2010 to competency development. This can be further tweaked based on individual organizational context and requirement.
