Hello, this is Rob here from Rob coven.com. So let's say you've set up your new website. This is what you'll see when you log in to the front end. Now in order to get into the back end, you've got two options. Actually, you can click on this or even open site admin in a new tab like that. Or you could just copy the URL of your site that ww something calm and then type WP hyphen admin afterwards, and that will take you to the back end.
If you go to Settings General, you'll see here your site title, these are possibly the most important four or five words in the whole website. And that's because titles, titles of pages, and in this case titles of the homepage or the Most important words as far as a search engine like Google is concerned. So if your name is Leslie posle fight, you don't want to put Leslie Parcells fight. In the site title, you want to put freelance graphic designer London which is my example. And remember we went for keywords which had less competition, freelance graphic designer London is searched for 260 times a month worldwide because therefore you stand a better chance of ranking for them in Google, you stand a better chance of people finding you when they have put these words into a search engine. So in WordPress go settings General, and then you can enter in the site title there that's for the homepage.
Remember, there's titles for every blog page you write so you should do relevant keyword filled specific titles for your blog posts as well. I recently wrote a blog post about this actually, and one of my readers followed my advice. And he called his site Java developer anger law. And he immediately started to get work inquiries from changing his site title. So first of all, we'll save changes on the settings general page. So we save our site title tagline is important as well, but not as important.
So it's good idea to change that and put in keyword rich words and phrases in there. So the next thing we're going to do is go on to permanence. And in the permanent it will be on default on your first WordPress install, and I'll show you what that means. If we go back to the front end, and you'll see up here that the address of this page is question mark p equals one is not very attractive. When you see it in the address bar. It doesn't tell you very much and also it isn't very good for Search Engines either search engines like to have keywords in the actual address the actual URL of the page.
So you can change that here. Remember in settings permalinks, you can go to post name, and save changes. And now if we refresh this page, you'll see that the page URL has got hello world separated by a hyphen, which is much better for your search engines better for your visitors. Third thing we're going to do is something for security. Here we have my login its admin. That's not good.
If you have a login is admin, you should get rid of it right away. So what we're going to do is in users, we're going to add new, we're gonna make up a username that is difficult for someone to guess put a new address in there. You can't use the same address as you used when you Install WordPress. And put your first name and last name in as well. Your website isn't important, the password should be super, super difficult to guess. So I've got a password there with uppercase, lowercase numbers and funny characters, obviously write down a copy of it and make it the administrator.
So we can add this new user. And now we're going to log out and log in again with the new user, login and go back to users. and delete the admin account. And you can attribute the content to your new user. But it's not that important because we don't really have any content yet. Confirm that deletion.
And then you have a new user who has a difficult to Remember, username and password. And this is a very good security task to fulfill After you have created a new site and WordPress. And if you haven't done that, and you're still using the original admin user that you used when you installed WordPress on your site, then you should complete this task anyway because it's very good for security. But if you do want to perform this function and your site has any posts or pages or information on it, then I would urge you to backup your database first before continuing. One last thing. You see there's a little bit of one after this plugins here.
That's what happens when a plugin or a theme or even WordPress needs to be updated. You see a number inside a orange circle. That's just an alert to tell you that you need to update it. And then if you click on plugins You'll see another alert saying that this particular plugin akismet needs to be updated. So you just click update now there. Again, here you activate plugin.
And there you go. It's activated, the number in the orange circle has disappeared. So you're good to go. Okay, I hope you enjoyed that as a few WordPress essentials after you make a new install for WordPress. My name is Rob from Rob cabin.com. And I'll see you in the next video.
