Welcome, and look, you can finally see me. Hi, revealing yourself on video has numerous advantages, the most important one being that you can create a connection with the audience, especially when they can see your eyes. It's not that hard to appear on video, but delivering a great experience can be quite a challenge. Delivering video trainings can seem quite expensive. Most professional cameras start from $1,000 but for your first videos, the investment can be minimal. What you need is a smartphone or a web camera and good lighting.
If you don't want to make a little investment you can always film outside with an iPhone with the sun shining on you. Check out this video I've done with the iPhone. Pretty high quality, right? If you want to make a little investment, I'd suggest buying a Blue Yeti mic. It's a USB microphone. That's pretty high quality at an affordable price.
For more suggestions on what to buy if you have more money, check the PDF attached to the course. Alright, now let's talk about the setup. First. I filmed my videos with two lights in front of me at 45 degrees. The camera is just in front of me at eye level. I sometimes read from a prompter.
The cheapest prompter, you can improvise is a laptop screen with scrolling text. I use iPad with the teleprompter plus and on my iPhone, I have a remote through each eye control the app. If you have two more lights, you can light the background like this. Here are my lights. There are other lighting setups, but this is what I personally use. Good.
In the next video I'll talk a bit about the theory behind presenting on video.
