First thing I would say to do is go to your some of your favorite channels that you watch and click on their about section of their page located here, you'll be able to see when the channel was created, and how many views the channel collectively has total. This is important to note because some channels you know, it looks like they have a lot of views. But if the channels 10 years old, maybe that's not so many views over the course of 10 years, whereas other channels that are less than a year old, that have the same view count, well, then that's amazing, that kind of tells me you know, maybe this kind of topic does a lot better on YouTube. And this is the kind of topic you might want to tackle versus another one next thing I would suggest doing is going and clicking on their video button here that brings up all their videos and then you can organize it by most popular go to your favorite channels and watch their three most popular videos, get on a pad of paper and a pen and write down just some of the things about those videos that you found interesting or what you know, just just whatever it is about that video, it was about this topic they had, you know, the video is 10 minutes long, they did this, this this and I want you to do that over like 20 or 30 channels that you watch Go to all of them look at their top three highest viewed videos.
And as you're taking these notes, you're going to start to realize something, there's commonalities between all of these channels, they're doing a lot of the same things. So as you're compiling this list of notes, I want you to take a highlighter and highlight the ones that you're going to kind of borrow those ideas from in do on your own channel, you might notice that a lot of these videos are a certain length, that's something you could very easily borrow for the videos that you're making. Yeah, maybe you notice they're all about six minutes long, you might notice something they do with the end the way they say subscribe. Any one of these things might spark an idea in yourself. Again, I'm not saying a copy exactly what they're doing, but maybe it'll inspire you for something that you want to do for your channel. It's a good way to research what else is going on out there.
Another very important thing to note is how often channels upload do they upload once a week, once every two weeks, once a day. You might even see channels that upload 23456 times a day. So keep an eye on it's a really important thing to note for your own channel. Kind of you know if you could look at channels that have been around for years doing a similar concept as your own, you can kind of gauge how often you should be putting out a video. Or maybe you even realize, Hey, you know, I could do a, b, and c that will make me the other part of the video faster than these channels. You should also notate how they do the banners on the different channels, what do they say on there?
What's the style, you know, it's really good in the research phase to type in these channels names on Google and see where else these channels come up outside of YouTube. There's the obvious places, Facebook, Instagram, so forth, but you might see some articles written about these channels. Maybe you could reach out eventually those same PR people and try to get them to talk about your channel. So it's a good thing to kind of have your eye on what else everybody else is doing on YouTube as you're formulating your plan. Give yourself any possible advantage you can over the other youtubers in your category, anything you could possibly do to get ahead of the pack, you should go for that whatever it is, oftentimes I find myself say like even with this Udemy course, I'll look whatever analysis done and I'll think of an idea that I want to do and part of my brain says Well, I can't do that nobody else has done it.
You know, that's clearly not way to do it, but really when you hit those ideas, that's a great thing because then you're thinking like, wow, maybe no one else has done it because I actually thought of a great idea and I could be the first one. So any anything you could possibly do to give yourself an edge, do it
