All righty, welcome to the SNMP lab, nothing new, nothing new. Now, you will know that there's three versions version one, two, C, and three. And version three is really the one that we want to use. But just so you can get an idea of how this works. Now, you see, when we did this law, we actually had a server. Here, we have to use a desktop where we go to the management information base, and we put the IP address of the VLAN that we're attached to, which is VLAN.
One, and the IP address we saw previously, which is one, two, okay, so we go to advance, and we fill in the information. Now the ports are already there. That's fine. We need to mess with that. But it's a read only community and the read only community, I put it as last la z. And I chose my SNMP version, which is version two.
So I'm going to click OK. In the actual switch in the actual switch All right. C changed their their name to information technology. Alright, so let's do that config T. And if you question market, you're going to see SNMP server. Why should we just follow that? SNMP common server question mark community string, was it gonna be last?
Okay, anything else? Yes, this video only or rewrite? Well, we want to read only, like we won't be able to make any changes do Wr. That's it. Now I know in the PowerPoints, there's different ways but again, this is the packet tracer. We're limited to what we can do.
But just to show you the concept of what it's doing. All right here we have our MIB. Okay, here you see the get and get bulk. And remember the good bulk is only with version three. So we're gonna in our SNMP MIB, which hopefully is up today, we go down to the multi layer switch. All right, all right.
Layer that is ISO or dodi internet management Am I be? Let's go to the system. And then as well this to the side and let's get the system name. And then there's the this is what I mean about the old ID the object identifier. That's what it is. Do you need to memorize that?
Not at all, not at all. You click go and there it is. You see how it says information technology. All right, well, let's go back into the switch. So you can see that it is working. And let's change it.
Let's name this hose are gonna go global for that t y in there. Okay, a hostname Bob. Okay, and let's copy it. Copy it. Alright, so we copy that go back for MIB and we click going in because we're already in our system name in our multi layer MIB, which has a switch, all right, the system name gets, and then we see that we get Bob. All right.
So that's what SNMP does. But again, your MIB needs to be up to date and you drill down to it. Okay? And then you It gives you the object identifier for the host name. That's what it is. Again, you don't need to remember the object identifier, just know that that number.
That's what that is. And that's SNMP. See you next
