I'm gonna talk a little bit about keyword research here. We have our new site here. And it's web design a creative design a graphic design company based in London, UK. And we want to get it ranking for terms like that. This is quite difficult for a new site, you're not going to be able to create a new site and have it ranking for some competitive term like graphic design. It's it's just impossible.

There's too much competition. However, with keyword research, you will find some keywords or groups of words or a phrase that people search for, but other websites aren't competing for. And that's the object of keyword research. So first thing to do is to go to Google and Google Keyword research tool or keyword tool. Hello, I'm just interjecting from the future here, as the Google keyword research tool has changed only a little bit, but I'm just going to show you what it's called. Now.

It used to be called keyword research tool. But now it's called Keyword Planner Tool. But if you search for keyword research tool, it will still come up. But let's search for Keyword Planner. And this is the link you actually need to be signed in with an AdWords account. You don't need to spend any money, but you need an AdWords account.

The interface has changed slightly. Now all you do is click here search for new keyword and ad group ideas. You put your keywords here, there's no need to bother with exact match or anything like that. Just put the keywords in freelance web designer London Learning to put anything in here, you want to select your countries, I've got the United States, United Kingdom English, you can copy these customizations if you want. But just click get ideas. And then once they come out, you need to click on this tab, keyword ideas.

Once you've done that you're in Basically, there, you can find out that 320 people search for freelance web design in London, you can click on that, and then click on that again. And then you'll see the least search for terms and these are usually the best ones to go for. Because hopefully there'll be less competition, but it's all a case of trial and error, writing blog posts with particular combinations of keywords and seeing with analytics, what works and what doesn't, but I'll explain that all later in the video. So thank you very much. This will bring up the AdWords Keyword Tool from Google, which is a free tool for keyword research. And what this tells you is how many people search for what every month.

And in this keyword tool, you want to search for a word or a phrase. And we're doing web design London, and we're going to try a few other as well, you can put them on the different lines, so we can try creative design, London, graphic design, London, even website design, but we get a lot of other suggestions. Anyway, just get rid of that. The other thing to do is to click on keyword ideas, not ad group ideas. So we click on Search. It's already done it for us, actually.

And here are the keywords that we keyed in. And below that we have the ideas. Let me show you these columns. Now. first column competition we just want to ignore because that is not the competition from other websites that are ranking for these keywords. Words, that is a competition for the advertisers who advertise on Google for those keywords.

And that's not something we're interested in at the moment. And then we have global monthly searches and local monthly searches. So these are the number of searches for in the United Kingdom. So there has been 8100, approximately people searching for web design London, in the United Kingdom in one month. Similarly, these are global monthly searches. As you can see, they're more or less the same.

That's because people in the rest of the world aren't going to be searching for web design London very much, but they will be different in other cases, and we'll come on to that later. So here we see, number like 8000 is quite high. Really, if you're at the top of Google for web design, London, you can expect quite a lot of traffic. Whereas creative design London, you can see is very low. It's only 50 people every month search that so even if you get to the top of Google with creative design, In London, you won't see that much traffic coming in from that particular search term, graphic design London, that's quite an interesting number because I find numbers around 1000 2000 are quite good, because they're nice and high. So you get a bit of traffic if you rank for them.

But they're also not too high that there'll be loads of competition, because high numbers of searches just more or less automatically ensure high amounts of competition. It's not always the case, of course, because we're looking for where there is high amounts of search and low competition, but usually, that's given example, like weight loss diet, or how do I lose weight or something like that, you know, there'll be millions and millions of people who search those terms every month, and as a result, there's a lot of competition. So that's why I find numbers around thousand 501,000 2000 3000 they're quite good because they mean that there's a decent amount of people looking for them, but not so many that the market is saturated. Now, what is also So, so helpful about this tool is that you get all these other ideas that you hadn't keyed in. But Google gives you anyway.

And he was find that website designer London has a nice number 300. This is quite a good idea as well, he there's one here that you might not have thought of SEO, web design London. So you've got 200 people searching for that you could specialize in creating websites and doing SEO, that might be quite a good business idea. There aren't a lot of people looking for that. But it might be a way in to start. If you wanted to have a look at them from very high to very low, you can just click on any of these columns.

So they order them with the most popular being first and then going down to the most unpopular. So that tells you how many people are searching for these keywords. But how do you find out about the competition? Well, to do that, I am going to go to another browser Firefox and the reason I'm going to Firefox is because I have some add ons loaded, SEO quake. So what you need to do is to search in the Add add ons for SEO quake. And it's not coming up because it's already there but you can find this add on and loaded up on to Firefox or you can just Google SEO quake all one word.

Now once you have this add on loaded to Firefox, it's good idea to have a look at the preferences. So if you go to Tools, SEO quake preferences, and if you go into parameters here on the left are various ranking factors that I'm not going to talk in too much detail about at the moment. But you've got basically Google PageRank google google index as the number of pages a site has indexed. And there's other ranking factors like sem rush, D Moz, being indexed Yahoo index, Twitter tweets, Facebook likes, Google plus ones, etc. But as you can see on the Google results, I have Google PageRank Google index and alexa rank checked. Now the reason I have only a few checks is because I don't want this plugin slowing down my Google results all the time.

Because if you have all of these checkboxes checked, you'll find that Firefox slows down while SEO quake goes and gets this information from everywhere. So just go into the parameters of the SEO quake preferences and see what you've got checked there. This add on for Firefox SEO quake is very powerful, but it can slow you down a bit. Best way to show you how this add on works is to do a search in Google. So we do a search now for web design London. And what that add on does, it gives you the PR, the number of indexed pages in Google and the alexa rank for every page in the organic results.

So I'll just explain a bit about what i what i meant there for those who aren't aware of the terms that I was using. First of all, these are the organs results, they come in beneath these results. And these results, which are the paid for results, the people paid Google to appear here and here. And that's very expensive. But these results here, these are organic results, and people didn't pay for them. They are the ones that Google show as a result of this key phrase.

Now, as I was talking about these SEO quake results, these are PageRank and alexa rank and also the number of pages indexed in Google. So first of all, PageRank PageRank goes from nothing, zero to 1010 being the most important page in the internet, which I think is google.com is a pr 10 PageRank is often referred to as PR so my website's, been around for six or seven years or so. And my website has a PageRank you can sit down here of four and five As a PageRank of nine google.com, I think it's pages that contain was try a very popular blog Pat Flynn's Smart Passive income, and that has a PageRank of five. So PageRank is the ranking for every page, not sites but a page on the internet to show its importance, and the importance is down to a lot of factors, the main one being the number of links that point to it.

So Pat Flynn's site has more links pointing to it than mine, which is PR for but Facebook Trumps us by very much having a PR of nine. So let's talk about the other one. Alexa, Facebook's alexa rank is two. The three most popular sites on the internet are Facebook, Google and YouTube and they have the Alexa ranks one two and three. I'm not sure which order but it doesn't really matter. My website has a alexa rank of 76,000 And I get about 1500 visitors a day or 30 to 40,000 visitors a month that shows you some sort of idea of traffic.

Alexa is just a traffic rank, and it goes down. So the most trafficked website is alexa rank of one, a very mid range traffic sites has alexa rank of 50,000, say, and Smart Passive income, a very successful blog that's been going for a few years, has an extra rank of 6000 is probably getting about 6000 visits a day, or 100,000 to 200,000 visits a month, I would say, as a wild estimate, something like that. But that gives you some idea of alexa rank. So anything above 100,000 for an extra rank is doing pretty well. It's good and getting a few hundred visitors every day. And a few thousand every week or month or so.

Page Rank goes from nothing to 10 and if your homepage is PR for all Five, you're doing pretty well, six, seven or eight. It's an incredibly important website like the BBC. Nine or 10 are unbelievably important my sites like Facebook and Google. So PageRank and alexa rank tells you something about a website or a web page tells you it's important, and it tells you how much traffic it's getting. And usually the two things go together, of course, but not always. So if I go back to this search now that I was talking about with the organic results, you can see the PageRank the number of pages index, and the alexa rank of all your competition.

So you can see from this how easy or difficult it is to get into the results in Google, and no surprises web design London, which has 8000 remember, local monthly searches, which is quite a lot has a lot of payoff for high PageRank pages. High alexa rank pages. Now the other important thing to note on this page, not only the page rank and the alexa rank, but also you've got to look at the blue title. And that is the title tag on the pages that these are linking to. And as I said in the earlier lesson, the title is the most important on page ranking factor for Google. So if you search for pink onions with yellow tomatoes, and there is a page called pink onions and tomatoes with that in the title tag, then that is the most likely to be returned by Google because there's likely not to be another page with that title tag.

So just look at the title tags here for the search web design London. It's no surprise that we have those words exactly. Web Design London, here, here, here here on the first three. As you can see, it's put in bold by Google, all those three words are in the title tag of all of the pages and the first 10 results of Google. And that's no surprise. And finally, to a lesser extent of ranking factor is the domain.

Here you can see in green the domains. And look at number two and number three, we have in the case of number two, design London and then the case of number three web design in the domain, as well as the title. And that carries weight in the rankings too, because that is what you need to rank. And for this particularly competitive keyword, web design London, you'd need an awful lot more, you'd need lots of links and lots of off site ranking factors that we'll come on to later. So you can see from this that web design London, you're on a hiding to nothing. Basically, you'll find it very difficult to rank for that even after a couple of years, you'll find it difficult.

So you can pretty much forget about that. And what you need to do is to keep looking So if we go back to the keyword research tool, we're better off picking some lower hanging fruit with lower number of monthly searches and learn competition. And there's two here. There's creative web design London, which is about 46 local searches and creative designs, London, which is about 58 searches. So not a lot of searches, but you can guarantee not a lot of competition as well. So let's go for creative web design London.

And you'll see the usual here are five pages coming in the top three results. And these are still pretty good websites. However, they don't have creative web design London in the right in this particular order in their title tag, although this one does more or less with a code on it. Let's try again, creative design London, and the first result hasn't got creative design London in its title tag nor has any of the others. So that may be one that you can learn. Using in our title tags so let's go back to our sites and have a look what we've got London based creative design agency, so it'll probably be better just to rename that title tag on the homepage to creative design London and let's see if that does anything.
