Hi. Okay, so in this little tutorial, we're going to talk about communication, getting people to contact you from your website, and Google Maps getting people to find you from Google Maps and then contacting you. So this is one of the most important things I mean, it can be the sole thing that people want when they're first starting a website. So it's very, always very important to have a Contact link in your top navigation bar. And that Contact link will usually have a contact form. And the way we got this contact form to work was by installing a plug in called contact form seven.
And then in the settings we copied this shortcode and paste this into the back end. There is the shortcode there So here we've got the email address, should people want to click it and the phone. And that's all also a link. There's two very clever things going on here. It's not necessary you do them. But I've got the code for this.
So I'll give it to you. First of all, the email, when clicked on will open an email with the subject inquiry to the email address. And secondly, that number is a link. And if you click on it, when you're viewing the site on a mobile phone, of course, the site is responsive, so it looks good on a mobile phone and more people will be viewing it on a mobile phone. And if you click on that number in the mobile phone, it will then dial the number. And I'll show you how I did that.
There's some JavaScript here, which creates an email to the email address that you want. There's the first name Rob and there's the domain Rob cabin.com. And that creates an email to Robert Rob Kevin calm and also the subject of the Email is inquiry. And the reason that this is a good idea to use this JavaScript it means that spam bots that scan the web for email addresses won't find Robert Rob kevin.com as particular spammable email address, because it's not a normal mail to link, it's split up. And that is enough to confuse the spam bots. But if you've got a good filter on your email anyway, then it doesn't matter so much, but I like to do that.
Anyway. And secondly, the phone script here with a bit of HTML to make sure that the phone is then diable when the link is clicked on, on a mobile phone, and there's just a little bit bit of HTML there, but it's very surprising how few people do that. And then after that, of course, is the shortcode for the contact form and there is the contact page. So now that you've got your contact page done, another absolutely essential thing to do for any business website or any website is to put yourself On Google Maps, and to do that you go to Google Places for business. So let's just go Google Places for business. And click on that.
And sign in with your Google ID. And here is my Google place for business. There is my company and capital of other companies that I've registered for Google Places for business. And you can see how many impressions they've had in the last 30 days. And how many times people have clicked on the link from Google Maps. So here it says, add another business and if you just have your first business, then you would do this in the same way.
And it's first ask you the country and the phone. So add your company or organization might be an idea to get some keywords in there, add an address, and as it's the UK we have a postcode here. And add the website. And as you can see, it's now building up a picture of how your business will appear on Google Maps. If the marker is in a incorrect place, you can pick it up and put it where you think it should be and save the changes and all sorts of useful things that that you really want to spend some time on the description in the category of course, just give me a second I'll do that. Okay, so this is the information I've entered on the description and in the category.
This actually appears once people have actually clicked on the marker and and clicked for further description of the business. They may well just click through to the website but you might as well spend some time and put some keywords in there. Here it says does your business provide services location says certain area we just leave that on. And I'm not too sure how important the operating times are. I like to say I I work from nine to six on all days. But I don't think that really necessarily helps the situation payment options.
Again, I don't think anyone pays any attention to this more for sort of restaurants and things like that. I think it's a good idea as a graphic designer to add photos and various businesses, I think it is definitely a good idea to do that. So by all means, go mad on this, and I'll choose some files from website. So I've uploaded some nice photographs of graphic designers merrily working away their video again, I'm going to talk about YouTube later. I think it's very important for every business to have a presence on YouTube and especially a graphic designers office, they should shoot a video of them working in their offices, and that sort of thing, meeting clients. So I'm going to get something from my YouTube accounts list actually use the trailer, get the link from YouTube.
It's not really appropriate, but it is something at least. So, okay, that wasn't the correct link. Of course, it's the link up here. So that one will hopefully work. And additional details, parking available, etc. And again, not very appropriate for web design companies.
So I'm going to leave it at that and submit. Okay, in order to verify this, sometimes they can, you can do it by mobile phone. So we'll have a postcard sent to this address, and there'll be some sort of code on it that we'll have to enter in order to get the Google Maps working correctly. So I'll just put my name in there and finish Okay, so I'm gonna have to wait for that postcard to come in your Google Maps or Google Places listing will be present within a few days after you've confirmed that you do actually live at that address. So it's very good service. It only takes a few seconds to set up but it can bring you unbelievable amount of business for people in the area, searching for your business, whatever you do, or Whether you're a web designer or anything else, clicking on the link at Google Maps going to your website, clicking on contact, clicking on the phone number and then calling you from their mobile phones saying I'm just outside the door.
