Okay, so that's the end of the course, thank you very much for taking it well done for making it to the end. I just thought I'd summarize a few things. Although web marketing is a fantastic thing to do, it can liberate you in terms of giving you the ability to start your own company from your home, and be your own boss and earn a reasonable income. But it can be awfully confusing, especially with social media SEO, and you can get a bit bogged down in the amount of information out there and it pays to remind yourself the basics from time to time. So remember the four pillars we have of web marketing. Firstly, there's the WordPress blog, which is constantly updated with fantastic useful information that's targeted to your niche.
Secondly, we have the optimization, the keyword research, and the various things you can do to improve the visibility of your blog posts, for example, putting good keywords in the titles, etc. Thirdly, there's social media, of course, and having good profiles on the major social networks and posting to them without wasting a lot of time on them. And finally, which is linked social media, of course, is the relationships developing meaningful relationships with other people in your niche through social media, but also through email, and personal relationships and doing favors for people so you become well known within your niche and get a good reputation. And also you can get things like links and stuff from that, but it all starts and ends with blogging. And you should write In your blog about what you do, and about what you know, don't write about things you're not sure about and write stuff that people are gonna want to read.
Because you've got to make it entertaining. And thirdly, there's keywords, costs, don't just think about entertainment. Don't just think about the usefulness of your articles, but think about keywords as well. And put them in the titles and we'll be coming to that later. So write intelligently and lucidly about what you know best. And remember, you're an expert, because we all are, you spent your life doing something.
And that something is useful to somebody, even if say you've just started learning HTML, you could write a good article about the basics of HTML. I've been learning HTML for six years, I would write a bad article about the basics of HTML. Everyone is an expert about something and you can write about what you know about And that would make you successful. Okay, so keywords What are they? keywords are what people type into search engines Google, for example, in order to find websites and web pages, and you use Google's keyword research tool to find out which keywords are being searched for the most. And you put those keywords into blog post titles, and of course into the title of your website as well use LinkedIn groups Facebook, Twitter and forums to canvass the opinions of experts in a certain field and blog about the findings.
So don't forget, you can use social media for your blog post ideas. I remember once I wrote on a LinkedIn group, about WordPress, about which were the best hosts to use for WordPress, I got about 100 replies for people recommending various hosts. And there were four or five hosts that came up again and again again. So I just wrote a blog post, saying that these four or five hosts very good for WordPress. And they were affiliate links to the host. So I've made quite a lot of money.
So all I did was canvass the opinion of a LinkedIn group and wrote a blog post. And it was very popular and very useful for people. So there's an example of how you can use social media for blog post ideas. Now, don't forget about the long tail. The longtail in essence refers to search terms or keywords, key phrases that contain three or more words. Now, the fascinating thing about the longtail is the total volume of searches are actually more than the highly competitive single and double word phrases.
And what's even more amazing is these long tail searches convert better. So if you look at the graph down the bottom here, on the y axis, you have the number of searches. And on the x axis, you actually you have the actual keyword Add some key phrases. So in the first part of the graph here, you have the highly competitive single word phrases, phrases like design, websites, weight loss, single words that are searched for millions of times a day. And you won't have any chance getting onto the first page of Google with these words. Second part of the graph is similar to word phrases, graphic design, website design, things like that.
It's the same again, you wouldn't stand a chance of guessing on the first page of Google for these phrases, because they get thousands and thousands of searches a week. And the websites who do well for these particular phrases have been around for years, and they're very famous, very big websites. But look at the third part of the graph, the more descriptive phrases with three words or more, so web designer, London freelance graphic designer London, freelance web design jobs, phrases like these that get a few hundred searches a day or a month even. These are the searches you want to go after. These are the places where you will find customers, people who are typing long descriptive phrases into Google who are looking for things in your niche. And look at that part of the graph.
If you add it up, there's more in there than there are in the two highly competitive parts of the graph that you'll never get to anyway. So it's all about the long tail. More about optimization. Remember, the title is the most important part of a web page. As far as Google and SEO is concerned. You've got to spend a bit of time on your titles and you've got to put your keywords in there.
Now you can use an SEO plugin, like headspace all in one but obviously I would recommend the Yoast WordPress SEO plugin. Or you can use a premium theme like Genesis in order to get your page titles appearing exactly the way you want them. Remember to add keywords to subheadings in your WordPress blogs, they go inside h2 or h3 tags usually h2 because the title is h1 and remember to do the images properly remember I showed you how to do the alt texts and has a name the file name of the image properly as well. Now we all want links because links from good quality websites in your niche will give you good rankings and in Google and good Google traffic. Now in this list, the first two are the most important. So just look at the first two they're great content will get you good links great relationships will get you good links as well.
Guest posting less so but if you get a guest post on a good blog in your niche, it's not gonna do you any harm. And the rest of the items on this list are less important. So if you don't have the time, then I wouldn't bother with them. But it's good to spend time on forums. And it's good to spend times on blog commenting in your niche as well. Now, social media can be a great drain on your time.
So limit your time there. But you need to do certain things. And it's most important to engage with people within your niche there, provide valuable content on the social networks, and make sure the content is from other people, not just yourself. Maybe only promote yourself and your content less than 20% of the time. And in the session radius section, we showed you how to create a Facebook page, how to create a google plus profile and a Google page for business. We showed you how to link business to Google Places in order to get on Google Maps and very importantly, We showed you to link your google plus profile to your content, which is the authorship markup, we showed you how to create a Twitter profile, as well as a bit about LinkedIn.
But the main point about social media is to engage with people there, help them and form relationships, learn and teach, provide valuable content. But don't just use it as a promotion tool for your own stuff all the time. So lastly, but no means least, is relationships. And this is one of the most important and overlooked facets of web boxing form close meaningful, and genuine relationships with people online, who share your niche and your interests. You can do this by guest posting. You can link to them, put comments on their blog, if you put 20 comments on someone's blog, they're going to know who you are.
So if there's someone you really like, you You think he's doing fantastic stuff in your niche? Then I would drop a few comments on their blog and make them good comments, not just like good post, but engage them in a conversation. The best way to form relationships is just email. Every blogger has got their email on a blog, or a contact form. So just write to them, tell them you admire their content. Ask them a few questions about your niche and see what happens.
And lastly, there's no substitute for face to face meetings. Now, this largely depends on where you live in the world. But if you live in a city, then there's no excuse because you can go to meetup.com or try to find business meetings in your city, where you can meet individuals who are from your niche or allied niches, and get talking to them. Give them your website address or try and get their email address and hook up. Maybe you like to hook up via social media. But once you meet people They'll never forget you.
But if they meet you online, you're just a name and an avatar on a computer screen, one in a million. But meeting people really does help with blogging and web marketing. Okay, to wrap up, then write quality articles about what you know best, as many times a week as you can. What works in the real world, like great products, great people, great relationships, works in the online world too. So to have a successful site you need or authority, and that is age, content, quality content and quantity of content, links from quality sites in the niche and social signals. So once you get all those and it won't happen overnight if you're just starting out, but keep on at it.
It's a slow process, but it's fun. enjoy what you do. Enjoy Writing the blog posts, enjoy meeting people enjoy reaching out. So lastly, thank you very much. If you have a question about the course, if you want to hook up with me, I'd love to talk to you. Here's all my details.
