Alright, so what I'm going to talk to you about today is reframing, which fits really nicely with the second R, which you're learning about this week. And that's free programming. So what is reframing? reframing is about looking at the situation from a different lens. Let me repeat that. Looking at the situation from a different lens.
You know how sometimes you just look at it from one angle and you forget about the other? Well, this is where reframing comes in. So whenever you feel like you're stuck with a problem or a challenge or an issue, and you feel like you can't look at it another way, or you're like, there is no way out of this. This is not possible. Well stop and reframe it. By asking, How can I approach this situation in a way that will lead me to a positive outcome?
I will repeat that question. How can I approach the situation in a way that will lead me to a positive outcome? So let me give you a couple of examples. When I'm recording this, I am in Alberta, Canada. And it's 2016. The oil and gas industry is huge here.
But this is the year where oil prices have gone drastically down. A lot of people have lost their jobs. So so many people say, you know, the economy is down. People have lost their jobs, it's gonna affect businesses. And so one way to reframe that is by asking, well, the people who have lost their jobs, maybe this is a time to look at it as an opportunity. For maybe something they've always wanted to do, for example, start a business, go back to school and do a Master's or even do another degree.
That's how you reframe it. Another example is myself, where this year I found out I had cancer in my right breast. And I went for surgery, I was told by the surgeon that expect to have a disruption in your life for four to six months, because I have to go for chemotherapy and radiation and so forth. So, at first, I was so bitter because I'm a speaker. I had speaking engagements that I had to cancel or ask the organizer if they could move it to next year. I also had to turn down inquiries because I couldn't take on any speaking engagements and I thought to myself, hold on, this is a good time to reframe.
And what I asked myself is exactly the same question, how can I approach the situation in a way that will give me a positive outcome? And suddenly it clicked to me? Hold on. You know, I've been wanting to work on an online course. Why don't I start working on that and start making income on that. And so that's what I did.
I quickly started to work on an online course that one of the videos that you're watching right now, I started to work on a e commerce store for the Wellness Center that we own because that's something that we always wanted to do, but just never had the time to do it. And now we'll have the time. So sometimes we feel that we're losing control, because we feel that those things are out of our control. Yes, cancer came to me may have been out of my control, but I took control of my life. Knowing that I could control some things in my life that would make me feel good again, that would make me focus away from the pain and just, you know, focus on something else. That is what reframing is all about.
All right now go practice this and tell me what you think. Bye
