Hi, this is Dr day and today we're going to talk about the types of diabetes. There are actually three types of diabetes. The first type one is a type of diabetes that happens when your pancreas, which is one of the organs of your digestive system is no longer able to produce a hormone called insulin. It's also not producing glucagon either. And because it's not producing these hormones, you're not able to regulate your blood sugar levels, which means the glucose stays in your bloodstream. It doesn't get into yourself and it needs to get into yourself in order for yourself to work.
It is the fuel that creates energy for yourself. So anyone who has type one diabetes, they are having this problem of not producing insulin. As a result, they have to To take insulin, so anyone who's a type one will have to take insulin in order to live. They can take it through shots, they can take it at through pens, they can take it through pumps. So there are different types of mechanisms to make sure that insulin is getting into the body, but you absolutely have to take it. That's type one.
Type Two Diabetes, which is what most people are suffering with, if they have diabetes, here is a situation where your pancreas still be producing insulin. But now the cells of our body aren't using the insulin to open up the cells so the glucose can get from the bloodstream into the cell. That's called an impairment of your body's ability to utilize insulin sometimes is referred to as insulin resistance. So insulin resistance Since means your pancreas can still be producing it, but your body actually is not using the glucose the way that it needs to. Now, when that happens, oftentimes, if you catch it at the early stages, pre diabetes, or when your blood sugar's are low, they're still in the range of diabetes but still relatively low, you can usually manage it through lifestyle issues. That means what you eat, how much sleep you're getting your stress management, your exercise, you need to use all of those things in combination, in order to get your blood sugar's back to normal.
People with type two diabetes often will have to take some type of oral medication so you're taking some kind of pills to help regulate your blood sugars as well. Even if you're doing that, if you can manage your lifestyle, you can usually get it under control. The most important thing is to control Your blood sugar level type three is sometimes known as gestational diabetes. Now, this only happens to women and it happens to women when they're pregnant. It doesn't happen to all women, but it happens to some women once they get pregnant. And so as a result, if you have gestational diabetes, it means your blood sugar's are not operating in the normal ranges, but it only is happening during pregnancy.
It is actually a precursor to let you know that you are more likely to actually have diabetes in the future, if you have a pregnancy that you have gestational diabetes. So there we go. The three types of diabetes now you know
