Hey guys, welcome to the first tip, you'll notice that I have a list of keywords for you guys split up in terms of three different sections. The first section is technical skills. The second section is computer and hard skills that you have. And last section is soft skills. So these are all the skills required to become a good accountant. Especially you want to work in a big company or in a big industry company.
This is super important. So make sure that your resume is littered with these things so that you will pass the software Bob straightaway, guys super important. I've emphasized this so many times, but I'm going to emphasize it again. Do not forget this lesson. So my first table, as you'll see on your screen right now is called technical skill. So these are skills that you pick up that you've got technical skills in.
So technical skill would be something like bookkeeping. So your ability to manage receipts, the ins and outs, the data 10 credits of a general a general ledger, cash flow statement, those types of things, financial analysts analysis. So the ability to see especially one of your management can you have to be able to see a financial statement, interpret the trends year on year and have a look and be like, okay, what's happening in this company? Why is this happening? So your ability to analyze the financial statement, payroll, obviously super important skill, especially if you're going to be at the junior level of accounting, ability to invoice in invoice out, pay staff, make sure it's proper on the balance sheet, sorry, on the profit and loss statement. All those types of things are reconciliation, especially bank reconciliations are super important on a day to day accounting job.
So make sure that you can recognize the bank statement with the cash flow statement. Most accountants will tell you it's it's almost impossible to perfect and obviously, it's really difficult especially if there's petty cash transactions. Now other transactions but having the ability to reconcile the bank statement with the cash flow and General Ledger super important tax, self explanatory financial reporting strong understanding of financial reports and financial statements because lot accountants will actually have to prepare the financial annual report or the annual financial statements to your respective Tax Office or or whatever your regulator is extremely important. So budgeting forecasting as well. pretty important cash flow management, obviously, a strong understanding of cash flows and, and liquidity for your company, especially the more CFO level roles, or the middle management roles where your cash flow is essential, especially working capital for a particular business, particularly, let's just say they're in wholesale, or warehousing or those types of things where work.
Capital is very, very important. So there's your technical skills required to understand so here's your computer hard skills. So obviously Microsoft Excel will be something I use a lot is going to be a lot be using, you know, maybe YB QuickBooks for instance, super important. You want to have skills and financial monitoring, understanding financial statements. Obviously you want a strong understanding of accounting, debits and credits, how the financial statements work, that's why you're relevant. university degrees are very important.
Certificates which we'll go for later CPA ca MBA really looks good for you. In Australia, we have best statements or understanding of best statements in America gaps. And obviously, if you have auditing and compliance skills, these are all very helpful. So last but not least guy soft skills we've got leadership. Obviously, if you want to be an accountant, especially a manager, you need to have leadership skills and people skills, especially if you have clients as well. You want to be able to talk to your clients.
You must have a detailed orientation if you don't need to start learning it. That's probably one of the most single most important skills as a soft skill for accountants. So make sure you have it obviously You need to be analytical solve problems for your boss or the client. You need to be curious as well. Have a curious mindset when understanding questioning the Financial Integrity of things as well especially for an auditor. Obviously, communication skills verbal and written are important.
Time management and teamwork, self explanatory. Most companies that you work for you be working in a big team, especially in the finance department or the accounting department. They typically have big teams, even at the small levels like you know, medium sized business, they'll typically have big finance teams because it's such an important part of running a business.
