So, finance tip number two guys make achievements very specific for your given roles. And we've been for this employment history but for a finance person, you want to make specific that you have strong analysis skills and that you can add value. Okay, so let's just say that you were a treasurer for your university club. And if you're still studying at university, I recommend you to get involved. This looks great for your resume. It shows your employer that you have initiative as well as a basic understanding of forecasting of budgeting, financial analysis, and financial statements.
So a lot of people and a lot of resume writers get this wrong. when describing what you did a previous job, they typically focus on the day to day duties and less so on what they've actually accomplished. So you need to Prove that you added value to the company as a whole, that you can do the same for the next employer. And this is super important. So, so as a financial analyst, you want to show off your abilities to analyze your ability to save, you know, money in the bottom line, or your ability to add strategic value to the company by analyzing certain financial statements, those types of things. And so, here's an example.
So let's just say you're in university, and you're trying to get into becoming a financial analyst, or let's just say you're moving career into financial analysts, you want to perhaps maybe have a portfolio of stocks. And within that portfolio of stocks, you want to start analyzing the stock market, and you know, buy investment grade credits or speculative stocks. And if your portfolio performs better than a market, these are the type of things that you want to show off. So you might put this particular achievement in the extracurricular of a work experience kind of category, and it shows an employee that you have the ability to achieve good returns. Let's just say you had a previous accounting experience and you had to analyze budgets and forecasting and you notice places where you can save costs in the bottom line. Okay, so expenses you'd like, Wow, that's really expensive that they're spending on this particular stock.
Let's ask procurement, if they can actually find the stuff that's cheaper. And then let's say they do, and you save the company a couple of thousand dollars or 10,000, or, you know, hundreds of thousand dollars. This is the type of stuff that looks beautiful, your resume and managers are impressed. Okay? So make your achievements very specific to the finance world, even if they're not, I still want to make them very specific. So if you've forgotten to do this, go back into the employment history section, the work experience section, and go through a list of questions to help you answer these
