Welcome back to 20 moves in 20 days, today, we're going to learn a great sign. Now, you actually might be familiar with grapevines, it's a very common step that's often used in line dances. So you might have actually done this before, whether it be at a wedding reception, or you learned any line dances in school or anything like that. But it's really fun. And it's a nice little ditty, you can kind of do different things with so I'm going to actually start by facing the back, I think it will make more sense to show it to you that way. And then I'll explain it and then we'll try a few together.
So it's a traveling step, you're gonna step out first out, and then you're gonna step back, and then out front and you just keep doing that. So a great fine in general, is just those four things and you can actually play with the order You could, you could start with a cross step either forward or back and then step out. But whatever you choose to do, it's always a four step thing. So incorporated in those four steps or two steps out in between two crosses one to the front, one to the back. So you're always alternating the way that you're crossing your feet. I'm actually going to start further over so you can really kind of see me do a field in a row.
So I'm going to start by stepping out to the right, so I step right cross back, right, cross front and right, cross back, right, cross front. Good. Now I'm going to start to the other side. So I step to the left, I go, left, cross back, left, cross, front, left, cross back, left, cross front. Good. Okay, so I'm going to do a couple facing you as well.
So you can kind of see what it might look like from a different perspective. But then I'll just go over Word a few times and we'll try it a few times for fun. So, here we go, I'm going to step out to my right, I'm going to go right cross back, right cross front and a right cross back, right, cross front, left out, cross back, out, cross, front, out, back, out and front. So again, Well, a couple things. If you'll notice, I try not to do this very differently. I try to use my play, use my knee bending capability to give me a little bit more of a bounce to the feel to it.
So one and two, three and four, as opposed to doing it like this. Right, it's just really stiff and awkward and feels stiff and awkward too. And again, traditionally great minds are gonna at least have a little bit of a bit knee so feel free to do that. The other thing I don't know if you picked up on it. I'm very I move. I'll put it this way.
I've moved my upper body a lot, I move my shoulders, because they're kind of going with me for the ride. So I'm trying not to stay super stiff up here. I'm actually, right. I'm like, even here, I'm kind of letting them move. So I'm just sort of letting them go with me. However, they sort of want to move naturally.
I'm letting that happen naturally. And I think that's going to be less awkward. Yeah, in the long run, if you're letting them move with you. So think about those two things. We'll practice this a couple times. And then I'll just give you some arms you can play with if you want to add something in a second.
So here we go. We step out and back and out and fret. out and back, out. Front, other way. out and back, and out and front, and back, and out and front. Okay, good.
One more time. out, back, out, front, out, back, out, front. Good. class time, left, out, back, out, front, out, back, out and front. Good. Alright.
So you can do whatever you want with your arm. Some fun things to do are to let them flow with you and rap, let them flow with you. You can do that kind of at your waist. You can do it up and around. All sorts of different things. So I'm going to actually show you actually, I'm right, left, right, left like without, with isolating just one basically grapevine, right and then one left.
And they'll just add some arms for fun. So if I'm going to the right, I'm going to start with my arms the opposite direction because I'm going to bring them with me. Okay, so I'm going to keep them kind of low. I'm going to go one 234 Yeah, I just crossed front again, because sometimes, if we're not doing a continuous great fine, one thing that we can do is a step touch to close as opposed to a cross, if I'm not going to continue on a grapevine or in something that moves me that way. So let's say I want to go back and forth. What I might do is step 123, touch 123 touch, okay?
Grapevines are very flexible, you can do a lot of them. So, just to caveat that last one. So let me start again, to the right, we would have 123 touch. Now back the other way. 123 touch. Now I'm going to go up and over with my arms, one and cross in front, just for fun.
Two, three, touch 123 touch. So that allowed me to do my crossing. back and front a couple times, but then I had the flexibility and the fun of doing different arms and kind of having that step touch added to it. So, like I said, very flexible step, you're gonna see it a lot. It's actually might be pretty helpful for wedding dance receptions if you aren't sure about getting up on the dance floor. Some of these tips are really good for that because they're, they're basic for for a lot of different dances including line.
All right, so you learned grapevines, today and some variations on them. Good work. I will see you back here tomorrow.
