Welcome back to 20 moves in 20 days, today we're going to talk about bonds across the floor. Okay, so this is gonna be a traveling step. This is very common, I'm going to teach you how to do them individually to all directions. And then I'm going to put them together in a very, very common combination that you're going to see in a lot of job classes, from the most beginning, level up into advanced, it's just, it's just really common to do this particular combination. So I'll show you that at the end, too. All right.

So Bob was to give some context to our kicks have your leg essentially, you can do them front side and back. I'll show you all of those. The things to keep in mind are, you want to have really, really straight legs during the kick. You also want to have a completely pointed foot. Okay, so essentially, if I were to just point my foot out in front of me, I'm going To think about the fact that my knees straight, my toes are pointed, everything's point in ankle as well. And then I'm going to lift it.

Now granted, what's great about Bama is you're not lifting simply from this position, that's, that's a lot harder than if you have the momentum which you will have. So what we're gonna do is just, I'm gonna, we're gonna do it a couple times across the floor and then break down and give you some, some pointers too. So, I'm gonna start over in this direction. I'm gonna have my arms out to the side, this is very common to it's just a very strong position helps keep you balanced, how keeps you stable. And then since I want to start with my right leg, as the kicking leg, I'm going to start by my left foot, Tom doing front likes though, I am turning out by the way, this isn't a parallel position like a lot of Jazz's you actually do want to have some turnout here so whatever your natural turnout is perfect.

Don't worry about it being like, you know, flat, most of us do not have that ability and we don't need it. So you're gonna step. I'm sorry, on your left leg here, bend your left knee, so it's almost like you're in a nice big lunch. And then I'm going to swing this right leg through in a nice spot, ma ready, swing it through, and I'm going to play that same like straight down. Now I'm going to go to my other leg, so left leg is going to swing through. Now play down in that lunge, right leg, play down, left leg, play down, right leg, please lay down.

I'm gonna run out of room and kick the mirror so I better stop. But I'm gonna do that again. And then we'll go to the other side. You're late does not have to be any specific height. And the more that you do this, and the stronger you get, and all of all of these movements, the higher your leg will eventually get. So please don't stress about it.

Height of leg, it's totally fine, wherever it is, is good. Yes. And then I really can't emphasize enough how important it is to have straight straight knees, and really pointed feet the whole time. Sometimes what happens is we start off kind of strong. And then as we continue doing them we start, maybe our muscles are fatiguing a little bit and then we start letting our knees bend and our feet flex. So we just want to be very conscious of that.

It's incredibly important to do them with pointed feet and straight knees. Oh, start again. We had our left foot out because I'm going to kick my right foot. First off, I'm heading towards the right side of the room. That's going to be traditional. To use my right leg first I'm going to step left kick, right, ready.

So I'm going to step kick, step, kick, step, kick, step kick. step, kick. Okay, now we're gonna start facing going the other way. So if I'm thinking about this in terms of a room, I'm heading towards the left side of the room. So I want to use my left leg, heading back as my first leg. So my right leg is going to be in Tonga so that I can lunge onto that while kicking my left forward.

So I'm gonna go, step, kick, left, step, kick, right, step, kick, left, step, kick, right, step, kick left. Yes, one more time. Okay, starting with my right leg so I can kick left, I go, step, kick, step, kick, step, kick, step, kick, step, kick. Good. That was to the front. Okay?

We're learning to the side into the back now. All right. Now it's a little odd when you're a kid, To the side, because if I'm traveling this way, it's just gonna feel a little odd but don't stress about it. Again, you want to have a turned out leg. And what I'm going to do is walk where I'm stepping onto my left again, because I want to kick my right leg, it's gonna kick out to the side, and then cross in front, so that then my left leg can kick up and step through, okay, and it'll make more sense as we do it together. So, I'm going to step forward, my right leg is going to kick to the side, ready, kick, and then it's going to come forward.

Now my left leg is going to go, kick, and forward, kick, and forward, kick, and forward, kick and forward, kick, and forward. Good. Now we can try to the other side. Again, if I am heading to the left now, my left leg is going to be the one to kick first. So I'm going to step right kick left Left, kick, right, right, kick Left, left kick, right, one, and two, and three, and four. Good.

Those are your bot mas to the side. So something to keep in mind is, when you're kicking to the side, you want to think about using your side position. So, one thing we always do in ballet, as if we're thinking about a first position in ballet, and then we're thinking about where to go from there with our side, because your side is going to look different than mine based on our natural turnout. The way to really think about it is to open up here toes as far as they'll go. For me, that's about where I am. I mean, I could try to squeeze further but then it won't necessarily work super well.

So this is my natural turnout. So from there is where my side is. So it doesn't have to be flat side if you Don't have naturally flat turnout. And like I said most of us don't. So we're going to really think about this is my side. This is my side.

Right? So an extension right from where your toes are pointed. Now, out to the side is where you want to be. Okay, let's go to the back. This one's a little. This is the one that tends to get kind of wonky when people are stepping, especially because we all have this habit of wanting to do this flick thing.

So we'll try to eliminate that. Okay, so if I'm heading to the right, I want my right leg to start. So I'm actually going to have my back leg and Tondo, I'm going to step back and I'm going to kick my right leg back here. Step on it, left, step on it, right, step on it, left, step on it, right. I knew I was gonna run. Oh, my gets going.

I'm okay. So that's that. We'll go back the other side to what we did. thing to be super careful of is not doing this. That happens so often where for some reason when we go to the back, we just want to flick our lines. So you gotta be really careful to have those straight knees pointed, pointed feet.

Okay, so I'm gonna step. So I'm actually starting with my right foot back, that way my left foot can kick ready. So I'm gonna step back and kick, back, kick, back, kick, back, kick, and back, kick. Good. You did it, you did great. Those are almost Front, side and back.

So in a traditional jazz class, when you're first learning, you might do them individually like that, right? You would do to the front to the side to the back, just practicing all the good technique that you want to build. Now, when you put it into a combination, a lot of times there's this really standard combination that so many of us use, it's just Kind of an across the board thing, it's really easy, in the sense that it's straightforward. And then it's just kind of fun too. So I want to teach you that. So, here's the thing I can what I'm gonna, you know what I'll say what it is, and then I'll demonstrate it and we'll do it together.

So what it is, is it's two bottles front, one side, one back, so you have a set of four. Okay, two front, one side, one back. This whole combination rotates as you're going down the, the floor. So, I'm going to start by facing the direction I'm headed. So I'm going towards the right side of the room. I'm going to face that side.

So I'm going to step with my left foot first so that my right leg can bottom Ah, I'm going to go step, right, step left from here. Step one Left, bottom or right to the side, while turning to face the front, which is you. Now my final one turns me back to face where I came from, and kick back. Okay, from there, I would pivot around and start again. So I can't really demonstrate it full out because of the space limitations, but it would be right and left and right and left, if I could continue. Okay, let's do that together because I know that you want to take just a moment to think about so without the kicks, the direction I'm going is kick right, kick left, those are both front, kick side but turn to the face the front and then kick left.

Defeats where I came from. Okay, so I'm thinking about it in terms of Right, left, right, left, front, front side back. Okay. So here we go, we have plea, plea a face the front kick to the side face where you came from kicked to the back, and then I would pin it and start again. Step, right, step, left, and so on and so forth. kind of make sense.

Let's do it one more time. Then we'll switch to the left side. Okay, so we go, one, kick front, to kick front, three, kick, side, four, kick back and one, two, so on and so forth. I just don't want to, I keep thinking I'm going to I'm like, Whoa, okay. So and now we'll go to the left. Okay.

So, from here, right, like it's gonna be in front so I can kick left first. I step right kick left. Left kick, right. Right side. Oh, did I say right side? I think I did the left side and then right back.

Let's do it again. Okay, here we go. Starting with our right leg. I'm going to kick to the front, left, right to the side, left, to the back, right. Oh, one more time. And front left, front right, side, left, back, right.

You did it. You learn favelas front side and back. You also learned a very common combination. Good work. I'm so proud of you. I will see you here tomorrow.
