Welcome back everyone. Well, we have finished putting together our double jumps skill. In this series of videos, we're going to be working on putting together our characters back dashing skill. And this one, we're gonna focus on creating a sound effect desired when our character back dashes. So this is gonna be laying some of the groundwork down first, creating a sound effects visual effect first, before we then actually make our character do the scripting for the back dash. So, the first thing we need to do here is to import in a WAV file.

So attached to this lesson, you should find that there is an S FX bak dash that you need to import into the Content Browser. Now I am already in the appropriate folder where I want to import this I'm in content Metroidvania audio and we've only got one WAV file in here. Currently I'm going to be pulling this directly from my folders in my Microsoft OneDrive again, you should be able to download this sound effect that is attached to this video lesson I've provided you with it there. Once you have it downloaded, and you have gone to the appropriate folder where it is downloaded probably in your downloads folder, you can simply bring open the folder, drag and drop it into the Content Browser like so. Once you see that plus symbol, you can release your left click to drag it on in and there it is you've got your ex back dash, you can hear what the sounds like just by clicking on it.

And that's going to be part of our back dash sound effect. We're going to have a combination of this sound as well as a character exertion sound. So I kind of want two sounds to be playing at once when our character back dashes now how can I mix two sounds together? Well, in order to do this, I need to create something called a sound cue. Now what I'm going to do here is with my SF x back dash WAV file, I'm going to right click on this asset and towards the top, I have an option to create a sound cue. Once I do that, I'm going to create it right here in the same folder.

I'm going to rename this to be SC for sound cue. bak dash. And I'm going to double click on this to open it up. And what you can see here right away, just gonna expand this window window, I'm not going to dock it across the top just yet, is that I've already got this WAV file, this s effects BAC dash hooked in to my sound q output. And I can play my cue right from here to see what that currently sounds like. Now, the way this sound cue editor works, is you can take a bunch of sounds, not just one and you can modulate them in some way, shape or form.

You can mix them together. We're going to be doing some of that here to make the desired sound effects. Right now All I've got is this particular s effects BAC dash. But the next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to bring in a character exertion sound to mix together with this. And the one I have in mind is over here in our content browser, let me just dock this across the top momentarily, I am going to eventually undock that it is in your Paragon counties folders, and I'm just going to do a search with that Paragon counties folder selected. I'm going to do a search for efforts a bit effort, ability.

Primary so those are the three words I put in my search box here and the one I'm looking for is called effort ability primary underscore oh two and I've got a few different options here. There we go primary. I'm looking for Is it that one? I think it is that one right there Countess. Effort ability primary underscore oh two Ha ha, what the difference is between these two particular ones I can't really say like slightly different. Um, any of these should do fine.

You've also got some primary ones, I mean, you can decide which one of these efforts that you want to include. But with our filters kind of in place here, I'm not gonna undock my sound cubic dash. And I can drag and drop one of these WAV files directly into my sound cue editor. I'm just going to drag this one in. Maybe I'll swap this one out for different one eventually, but I'm going to drag that one in left click, drag it, drop it right into my graph. And then if I redact this back across the top, you can see that there is my way WAV for that.

So what I'm going to do is I'm going to create a little space here. So I've got this exertion sound and this kind of whooshing sound. I'm going to bring in some notes to modulate the sound of these bass sounds. The first one I'm going to bring in is called a modulator. I want to modulate the sound of this exertion now noise. And I can find different sound nodes to modulate and change up some of these sounds right over here in my palette panel along the right, or I can simply right click and find things from here different nodes.

So the one I want to bring in is called a modulator node, and it's right over here on the left hand side, so I'll just drag it in. And so I'm going to plug my Countess effort into this modulator. And with this modulator node selected over in the left hand side Details panel we can specify some things about how we want to modulate this particular WAV file. In this case, you can pitch it up or pitch it down. Pitch min, pitch smack. Same with the volume Min and Max, what this is going to do is it's going to give you a randomize value between your min and your max for both your pitch and your volume.

So I'm going to set my pitch min here to be 1.05. My pitch Max, I'm going to set to be 1.15. volume in I'm going to set to be point five and the volume Max, I'm going to set to be point seven. All right, then then the next thing I want to do is I want to bring in a modulator note here for my back dash. So I'm gonna bring this in. I'm gonna break this wire temporarily. So if you hold down alt and left click that'll break that wire.

And I'm going to modulate my back dash here, left clicking and dragging. And now with this modulator node selected I want to set my pitch min to be point seven my pitch max to be 1.3 my volume meant to be point seven and my volume max to be point nine. So now I've already gone and modulated those two sounds. Something I want to do eventually is to mix them together. But one thing I want to do is this effort sound, it can get a little annoying to hear this, you know again and again and again and again. So what I want to do is I want to bring in a random node, drag and drop this from your palette panel.

And I'm going to take the output of this modulated effort sound and plug it into this random node. And with this random node selected, over in the Details panel, I've got these weights. And what what I want to do is that are two weights here to be point five in point five. And you can see that Whoops, I clicked off that for just a moment. You can see I've got two weights here, weight zero and wait one. Essentially what I'm saying here is I want it to be 50% of the time where I do hear our effort sound, wait zero and 50% of the time wait one, we hear nothing because there's nothing plugged into here.

Now in order to get true randomization whoops, let me just set this to be point five. In order to get true randomization here, I'm going to uncheck this randomize without replacement. By having this unchecked I'm going to have true randomization here whether it's going to actually play this effort sound wait zero 50% chance or it's going to play 50% chance wait one no exertion sound. If I had this checked what it would do is it would play this then this then this then this then this then this so it would alternate between you hearing it and you don't so with this setup, I have true randomness whether or not I will hear our Countess play that exertion noise. Okay. So with that all in place, the next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to bring in a mixer node.

So you can left click and drag this in from our palette, and plug that in to both inputs here and I'm going to hold down alt, and unclick, that first one. So what I want to mix together here are two different sound is our back, our back dash or modulated back dash in our counters effort sounds so that I'm going to plug in like so. And this like so. And now if I play the cue, sorry, let's play the queue. You should hear and see the flow as to how that sounds. Now again, sometimes you're getting that Countess effort, sometimes you're not.

It's randomizing. 50% of the time, you should be getting it 50% of the times not. Now of course there may be some streaks in here where you get it you know three times in a row three times without But that is all set up in good to go. So with that done, we can save this sound effect. That is all we wanted to accomplish in this one guys in the next one we're going to be working on a visual effect for our back dash. We'll see you there.
