In this video, we'll create and name our project as well as determine where we'd like to store project files on our computer. This will be a "Blueprint" based project (no coding experience needed!) and will make use of the "Side Scroller" template that comes with Unreal Engine 4.

Welcome everyone. In this video we're going to set out to create our project. And that is going to be done from the Epic Games launcher. So go ahead and find your way on over there. I'm going to double click on my Epic Games launcher icon right here. And we are going to be creating a brand new project here.

And I'm going to be doing so from my library tab here. And it doesn't really matter which tab you have selected across the top here because we are going to be clicking on this Launch button up here in just a little bit. But I just wanted to point out while we are here on our library tab that after we create this project that we're just about to create. It's going to then exist in this my project section down here and again, I'm on the library tab. So on the library tab is where you can find all of your existing projects. With that, go ahead and find your way on over to this Yellow Launch button and make sure you've got the latest version of the engine.

And again, mine is currently Unreal Engine four dot two one that is the latest one as of today's date and click on that. Now it's just gonna take a little while here to open up a new window that's going to be asking us if we would like to select an existing project or to create a brand new project. And obviously, we want to create a brand new project. Now, this is going to be a blueprint project. It's going to give us the option if we would like to create a c++ project or a blueprint project but for this particular course, this is going to be heavy into unreal engines blueprint scripting, so this will be a blueprint project. When we see these tabs appear as well we're going to have the option of choosing some Starter Content with which to work.

We are going to want some Starter Content with which to work. So that will be one of the settings that we'll be able to set right out of the gate. As well as if we want to make this particular project for PC or mobile. That kind of thing. We'll just give it a moment here to finish its initialization process. This can take a little while but it's worth waiting through here.

9495 And here we go. Okay, so here are those project tabs that I was talking about your existing projects, which it defaults to, or the new project tabs will find your win over here and then down below you have the option of choosing to do a blueprint project which we do or a C plus plus now, we are going to be making a side scroller project in the vein of a Castlevania or a Metroid style game. Now I understand that this is going to be a character skill system but I was inspired to create this project being a huge Castlevania fan. So I'm going to create this using the side scroller template, not the 2d side scroller template. So make sure that you got this right. What's the difference here?

2D side scroller is going to use 2d art side scroller project is going to play on a 2d platform. But there will be a 3d art creates kind of a cool effect that I really like, by the way. So side scroller project is what we're going to select here. Down here. We do want desktop console quality, sorry, desktop or console. Then we want maximum quality, which is the default and we do want with Starter Content.

Last but not least, you need to select a name for your project and I am going to call my project here Metroid Metroidvania underscore skills. Now again, this is going to be a generic character skill system. That's what is intended to be taught within this project. But I just want to call it Metroidvania skills here because if people really like this project, maybe we can expand it beyond just a character skill building system folder here, I'm gonna build this a I'm gonna have the repository on my desktop here you can choose a different location if you so wish. And once you've given it a name, you can create your project. Now this too, will take a little bit of time here to open up so let's just give it a moment here and I will see you again once this is finished loading up.

And here we are, once the project is finished loading in you should see something that looks roughly like this. You can jump in and play and you can see how we've got 3d characters, a 3d background but we are constrained to a 2d plane. So that's all we wanted to accomplish in this one guys. We have created our project. We'll see you in the next video.
