Hello guys, I'm Cambridge English teacher, Ori from student languages calm. And in today's video, I'm going to show you some more examples of me using the perfect method for keyword transformations. So I've got three more questions that I'm going to show you how to complete them using my method and these three questions from the homework from the last video. So let's get started with the first example down here. Read both sentences. The price of the books was less than I had expected.
The books did. I have expected cross out duplicate information. So we have I had expected here I had six spected here Okay, identify the type where they give you not. So we need to use not to make this a negative sentence the same as was less. Okay? Is this word used in any common collocations expressions or phrasal verbs?
I don't think so. I don't think they are relevant here. Can you use the remaining information to complete the gap? Well, not as usually afterward did, we can say did not. And the books where we're talking about the price of books, the books did not. We cannot say price because that is a noun.
You cannot say that Not and then and then we need to use a verb and the verb for price. We can use the word cost did not cost. Okay, then we can remove this information about the price. It was less than, and that's positive. So did not cost Hmm. So if you're struggling, then number seven.
Ask yourself a question using the information you have. So the question could be, did the books cost more? Or let's use the same word from here. So using the same words did the books cost less than I had expected? We need to answer this question. So, the books did not cost did they cost less?
Yes. Okay. So we can say the books cost less, but we need to use not. So what's the opposite of less did not cost more than okay. And alternatives alternative could be the books did not cost as much as I had expected. These two answers would get you the marks did not cost more did not cost as much Okay, so let's try again the new sentence.
Read both sentences. My sister would never watch television until she had done her homework. My sister always television cross out duplicate information, television, television, my sister, my sister, then we have never which is the opposite of always okay. Identify the type of Where they give you watching? Watching with an IMG you might know it as a gerund. Or it could just be a verb in a continuous form.
Is this word used in any common collocations expressions phrasal verbs? I don't think so. Can you use the remaining information to complete the gap? So we know that this is never so she would never watch television until she had done her homework. This means she does her homework. First she watches television after.
We've got to say something with always, never is with television. So the opposite could be Always with homework. So my sister always and it's in the past we can see did work. Okay. Sarah sing, so she had done her homework and still need to use this word. And if you're struggling remember, ask yourself a question.
So the question could be did my sister always do her homework for watching today division. And how can we answer this question? Or we can say my sister always did her homework before watching television. Okay, but then we need to check if the meaning of this is the same as the meaning of this. So she would never watch television until she had finished a homework means before she finished her homework, so she would finish her homework and then watch television. So, this sentence says she didn't know Merck thought intelligence is correct.
It's the same meaning and we can cross out the rest of the information. Never watch because we have before watching and until is similar to before We have the final two words, can you see what they are? Before watching and before watching. The reason we use watching here is also because before is a preposition and after a preposition, we use a verb with an IMG in English. That's useful to remember for the exam. If you have a preposition, the next word will be a verb with an IMG and if you get a good course book, and I will recommend the links to some in the description, then this will teach you this type of grammar which you will need to know for the exam.
So let's complete this homework for watching 12345 words that's fine. And we would get one mark for using the word watching correct and another mark for The whole sentence being correct. So you would get two out of two marks for this question. Okay so let's have a look at the final example. Read both sentences. It appears that we have no bread left.
We seem to bread cross out duplicate information. Bread. Bread, we seem to is very similar to say it appears that so we have no left. This is the information that is important for us to use. Identify the type of words they give you Run. Run is a verb.
Is this word used in any common collocations expressions or phrasal verbs? Yes, it is. She's a phrasal verb that I can think of. And the one that I'm thinking of is the same as having nothing left. When you use everything, and you have nothing left. Do you know what this phrasal verb is?
It is run out of can you use the remaining information to complete the gap? We seem to run out of breath. That's nearly the answer. I don't think we need to ask ourselves a question. Can we cross out The remaining information really is there. No is the saying run out of no bread left run out of bread?
You need the word have we seem to have run out of bread? Is the overall meaning correct? It appears that we have no bread left is the same as saying we seem to have run out of bread. Both situations there is no bread left. So this is the correct answer. And you would get one mark for using the word run correctly.
And another mark for getting the whole sentence correct. We've used four words. Remember to write them in capitals and then you would get two marks out of two Okay, and I will be adding more use of English exercises to this course. And I will continue to add more and more videos in the future. But you should practice using this method with some of the books that I recommend. And you can either click the link in the description with this video, or I'll put a link up here for you now, showing you some good pages on my website where you could find the books that I recommend, along with some information and reviews of these books.
