So it's more or less 20% for the Reading Test of use of English. And then 20% for listening 20% of writing 20% speaking if you want to have a look at this page in a bit more detail, I suggest that you pause this video now. But I'm going to continue on to the next page. So how long is the reading and use of English section it lasts for 90 minutes. How many parts are there in this paper, there are eight parts in total. But only parts one two for our use of English parts five to eight are reading.
Remember in this video course we're only going to be focusing on the use of English. So we're only going to be focusing on parts 124 but I do have another reading video course available the past five to eight as a different format. How many questions are there there are 56 questions in total. But only 30 questions, our use of English. The other 26 questions on reading questions 30 questions, our use of English questions. And where do you write your answers?
You write your answers in pencil on a separate answer sheet. Okay. Now let's have a look at the question types in the use of English paper. Part One, you have a multiple choice close. Part two is good, open close. Part Three is word formation.
Part Four is key word transformations. Now what we're going to do is to have a look at these four different parts and a little bit more detail. So part one multiple choice clothes So it looks like this. As you can see here on this page, you get given a passage with a number of gaps in the passage, and then you have some options that you need to use to fill in these gaps. And how many questions are there in total? There are eight questions.
How many texts or passages Do you need to read? Just one, how many options can you choose from? four options? So you have to choose a, b, c or d for each question. Choose one of these words put in the gap in the text. Okay, part two, open close.
How many questions are there in part two? There are eight questions. How many texts or passages Do you need to read? Just one how many options can you choose from? Know what So you have a passage that looks like this, you need to decide you need to think, what is the word that goes in the gap? And you have no help, no options to choose from.
You just need to think, what do I think is the word that goes in each of these gaps? Are the eggs different questions? Three, word formation? How many questions are there in part three? There are eight questions. How many texts or passages Do you need to read?
Just one. And what do you write in the gaps? Because there are eight gaps in the passage. And what do you write in these gaps? For each question? You need to change the word given.
So we look here, they give you a word at the end of each line where there is a gap in the text. What you need to do is to take this word Written in capitals at the end of the line, and to change it so that it fits in an appropriate way into the passage into the gap. And you need to do this for each of the eight questions or eight gaps that are in the passage. Forests sentence transformation. This is what it looks like. Given a sentence, which has a few words missing, and do you have to decide which words complete this sentence.
There is an example sentence that they give you above which should have the same meaning as the sentence that you need to complete. They also give you one of the missing words which you need to use in your sentence, you cannot change this word, you have to keep it in the same format. And I say that this word often dictates which other words you need to use with it. So this word is really the key to understanding what you need to write in the gap. But when we get to Part Four, I will also give you some other tips and techniques to help with knowing which words fit in again, that is in a different video lesson, but we look at this in more detail. So how many questions are there in this part of the exam?
There are six questions and you are awarded 12 marks so you get two marks for every question. If it's completely correct, you get one Mark if it's partially correct how many words should you write You should write between three and six words. Should you change the word that they give you? No, you shouldn't change the word they give you, you need to keep it in the same form. And here's a very quick tip for you before we end this lesson and move on to part one. always write an answer.
