Now it's time for our last tune in the KFC and this one is very different than the others. We've learned so far by the Reverend Gary Davis, who was one of the more complex and advanced of the country blues guitar players and his stuff is by no means easy to learn. But what I'm going to do here is show you kind of a simplified version of one of his most famous tunes called hesitation blues. It's in the key of C. Now, but he did many versions of the song and there's one that I had on a tape that I bought from Stephan Grossman's guitar workshop A long time ago, and he just plays an instrumental version of the song he doesn't say or saying any of the lyrics. And since I'm not a singer, I've always tried to learn that and play that as an instrumental.

So what I'm going to do is show you just a part of Reverend Gary Davis, his hesitation blues, the way I play it with is really based on the instrumental and then I'll kind of explain what he's doing and how in such a way that you can listen to any version of him doing the song and figure out as much of it as you want. There are literally hundreds of different verses that he plays and all the different versions of this. This is like the rocket science of acoustic blues guitar. But for you and for this lesson series, I'm going to simplify it and give you a version of hesitation blues that you can that you can play, or at least get started with. So here we go. This is hesitation blues, the instrumental version And so on and so on.

So, basically when you listen to this tune let's talk about the the chords here. The first part is just an A minor For us, this is a brand new chord, I didn't teach this in the first part of the lesson, what we're doing is really taking an E shape, E major and just moving everything over a string. So we've got my first finger on the first fret of the second string, my second finger on the second fret of the fourth string, and my ring finger on the second fret of the third string, and we can use the open a, and the open E, so the open string and the open first string, a minor and what we're doing is I'm getting the bass and strumming then we're going to an East seven. Doing the same thing, bass strum so it's a minor seven. So those two chords you're thinking, Hey, this is supposed to be in the KFC, but it is.

And then once we get past that little introduction We're going to go to an F chord, which we've already is back to a C. And then we're going to use a G to a C. Now the difference here is that instead of playing over the chord, like we've done so far, we're going to use a lot of single string rats. And this song is really good for learning the scale that you can play in the key of C, you know which strings you can play to play single single string rounds, which is one of the things that Reverend Gary Davis was famous for. So again, the courts for hesitation blues, a minor, an ISA. So our new core there is the A minor and then from there, we've got our same old F, C, G, C. Now we are going to do something a little different when we come up here down here on the next Up here on the neck.

And we're going to play a little run there and I'll explain that when we get to it.
