Hey, In this lesson we will talk about getting your first guitar. So if you're going to be getting an acoustic guitar, which is totally fine if you know if your dream is to like shred, you know, on the electric like your favorite metal player or whatever, you can still start out with an acoustic guitar that will get you all the fundamentals you'll need initially and then you know, you can get an electric guitar later. So, if you're going to get an acoustic guitar, and you don't have a friend or relative that you know, is not using theirs and you could just play theirs, and you need to go to buy one, I would say, purchasing one around, I mean, $200 would probably be a lower end even, you know, a lower end range, you might not want to go too low, too much lower than that, because then you run into problems that it might not function properly.
So maybe two to 300 bucks, maybe even like 150 to 300 bucks range or so. mean if you have the money then spending a little more for like an upper, you know, beginner or mid level guitar for 500 bucks is a good idea. So a couple names that you can watch for is Yamaha. They produce a lot of a lot of things. As you will know, I'm sure. An Epiphone would be a good name to look out for.
Okay. And there are tons of others I would ask you know, someone you might know who plays guitar or go to the guitar store for help. Okay, more upper level guitars are like Martin, Taylor, and Gibson. I play a cold Clark guitar. It's an Australian made. And speaking of Australian made, the signature right here is Tommy Emmanuel, who is an Australian and he's one of the best guitar players ever.
Tommy Emmanuel, you should check them out might be very inspired. Okay. So now let's go into electric guitars. If you Get an electric guitar. Again, beginner price range, probably same idea around like 150 or so to, you know 300 bucks. Some names would be Yamaha Squire would be one to look out for.
Okay. You could then go up to mid level guitars and Squire would probably still be one. Fender Fender guitar is one of the most popular guitars and also Gibson as well. Then there's metal guitars like Jackson and so on. So, again, there's so many to choose from, I would just, you know, look, research it online, look into it, talk to friends who might know more about this or go to the guitar store. I play a Fender Stratocaster.
I'll just show you what that is really quick. So again, this is this would be the straw is probably more like 900 bucks like minimum like 800 and going up from there. So a lot of players use this like john mayer or Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, a lot of the blues guys use a strap. So that's what I play. Now in terms of getting an AMP for your electric guitar. You again, it could be like, I mean, even less than 100 bucks, maybe for just a starter amp, you don't want to go to huge like get a huge, you know, like once you see, you know, the pros using right away, just start something small.
And then you'll work your way up from there. Right, the more you play the guitar. So last I just want to talk about the strings. And you don't want to get strings that are super thick to start out with so you can get what's called light gauge strings. And I would talk to your guitar representative more about that and how to purchase that and they could probably even Put them on for you and that sort of thing. And one last thing as you if you're young, if you're you know, or you're buying a guitar for your, for your kid or something like that in the in, in, you know, this might be too big or the acoustic guitars too big, then you can get ones that are a bit smaller so I would highly recommend getting a smaller one if you aren't, maybe a teenager and up.
So Alright, that's it for this lesson.
