In this area, let's begin talking about emotional intelligence EQ. It was founded by two psychologists Peter salivate. And john mayer in 1990. Now in 19, in the early 90s, so think about it 1990s. This is super recent. It's the latest and greatest, where is it used now, it's used both for individuals, but also in large corporate settings.
A lot of executives training, executive coaching, leadership, coaching manager coaching involves a lot of emotional intelligence. Why? Because it's made up in three parts. I'll get to them shortly. But the unique thing about it is that in larger organizations, when people are primed for leadership roles, they're competing against people who have other also very high IQs. So there is no differentiator they both have good cognitive ability.
What sets them apart is that they have the ability to lead emotional intelligence they can inspire and motivate people. Move them to action, lead, manage themselves lead themselves and lead teams through example. So the three parts to emotional intelligence are first understanding and being able to control your own emotions, everything starts there. The second part is understanding the emotions of others. That's called empathy. You know, you have to be very tapped into peep the people who are surrounding you.
And the third is your ability to control and influence your emotions and the emotions of others. And think about it, every human interaction. And not just that every thing you do in your day, has an emotion behind it. You may let it go under the radar, it might be in your subconscious you might not give it full, full focus, but but everything you do, you might get a seat on the train, nice emotion, somebody might give you a dirty look because You didn't leave the train for somebody else, you didn't leave a seat for somebody else. negative emotion, you got a bad email, negative emotion, you got a good email, positive emotion. There are many, many, many instances in every day that involve your emotions.
And if you can tap into them, understand them, understand and then begin to channel them to be positive and productive emotions. That is a huge win. And as you do that, and as you start to master empathy, the ability to understand the emotions of others, you're going to be able to understand how to lead others how to inspire and motivate them and get them to have that right emotions so that they're excited about working with you, and building whatever you're working on, together with you. And this is one of the very core things to leading people leading teams and that's why in corporate training, it's so important and moving Worship is so important. So that emotional intelligence is going to set you apart and it's going to help you influence others and yourself for before, the better.
