In this video, let's talk about focus. It's an extremely important topic in productivity because having in training your focus to be really zeroed in on a certain task with the least amount of distractions will be a tremendous factor in having you do better work. It's the probably the it's pound for pound, it's probably the number one determinant in the quality of the work that you are accounting that you're working on the end result, you're going to focus Well, you're going to work faster, and you're going to work better, you're going to accomplish a lot more and less time. So how do you do this? First of all, you have to get rid of distractions around you, because our world today is more filled with distractions than ever, from the phone, from the computer, from your friends, from your co workers, you internally. There's all kinds of apps and software and all sorts of things happen.
So here are Some things that are easy to do that will immediately help you boost your focus and get rid of distractions. First, choose a quiet, clean, and a comfort and a physically comfortable area for you to work. That's immediately gonna just have less distractions, decrease distractions and allow you to get into a space to work better. You want to minimize online, distractors. distractions, like closing browser tabs, not checking your favorite news websites or social media websites or chatting with friends because those are all big distractors and big time sites. You also, one thing you want to do is allocate large blocks of time to certain tasks.
Because if you just focus or try to focus on one thing, for maybe a few hours, even if it's a struggle for you, you'll still get pretty far with it. Because at certain at some point, you'll just run out of all your common distractions and you have nothing to do with work on that task. Now, there's Three kinds of distractions that I really want to point out to you that can really pull at you that sometimes are subconscious. There are mental distractions. Maybe you had an argument or a fight an hour ago, and he's just eating at you. So that definitely you want to minimize your negative interactions or your or have pleasant social interactions, or at least be aware of them.
And be aware that they're bugging you, so that you can get over it in your work. Also, that one is physical interact physical distractions, because those are easy to fix. Maybe your work area is not really comfortable for you, and you're just doing your best in it, but it's not really great. And so if you just focus a little bit on fixing your work area and making it better, and be cleaner, maybe just more comfortable in that arrangement right away, it can help you just sit there and focus. And sometimes there's like emotional things, you know, whatever is put whatever is tugging at you. Your emotions, consumption prevent you from being in that excited, optimistic, enthusiastic state of ready to work.
So here's a technique that is primed to help people begin to boost their focus. And it's called the Pomodoro Technique. It's very basic, but it works. So you pick a block of time, let's say, this is not the point of picking the point I made earlier, picking a large block of time, this is picking a smaller block of time within that big block of time. So let's say you pick 3035 minutes block of time, and you allocate 25 minutes or 20 minutes of really intense work, followed by 10 minutes break. And the reason you do that, the reason you need to do that is because your brain needs to relax a little bit You can't just be on all the time.
So the Pomodoro Technique is just intense focus for 25 minutes, then break. Then again, intense focus for 25 minutes, then break and same thing again. 25 minutes and testimonials, then break, you can change the 25 minutes and 10 minutes break, you can change that a little bit, depending on what's comfortable for you and the nature of the work you're doing. I like to make it a flexible amount of time to suit so that you can calibrate it for your needs. So but but generally keep it within that kind of a proportion of time working and the time of the break. Also, there's software and apps that can immediately help you become more productive and boost your focus.
I'll mention to them get cold turkey that calm. And there's there's a lot of software that's like this, I only pick two examples, just to have examples. But there's a lot of copycat software for these kinds of tools for you. You're free to choose whatever works best on your computer, or for your situation. But they get cold turkey just blocks certain things like let's say let's say your for example, your problem is that you spend way too much time on Facebook Or maybe news websites? Well, or we're checking sports, right?
Maybe you have a sports fantasy team, so they get cold turkey actually allows you to block those sites for a certain amount of time. Okay, so maybe for an hour, and it's very effective because you habitually go to those sites still, but they'll be blocked. Because you'll be like, okay, just gotta get back to work. And rescue time.com is a tool that will actually monitor what you're doing. And then give you a report of like, Where are you spending your time. And what sometimes happens is it will, it will show you shocking numbers of shocking amounts of time that you're spending on sites that are time wasting sites, that is not really your work.
And that can be shocking enough hopefully to get you to stop using those sites or, or use those sites less and get back to work. So these are like the very easy, low hanging fruit techniques. Then you can immediately get rid of distractions and boost your focus and the quality and speed of your work. which is essentially like doing work like as like a smarter person right? Like a you know you immediately boosting your work IQ
