In this video, let's talk about managing fear. Fear is an interesting emotion because it comes into play in many facets of your life. Of course, it comes into play during business settings. But sometimes it comes into play even before you start on a project even before you change your career path or embark on something so it can prevent you from doing a lot of things you want to do. And you'll notice that it starts off the same way that we've been managing a lot of our other negative emotions, acknowledge the fear, have to identify the threat, and you have to start reasoning with yourself. Is that cause of the threat and the fear rational?
Okay, sometimes you can reframe the fear and think about what's the worst outcome and sometimes the worst outcome is not that bad. And it's recoverable from it isn't that bad. Of course, it's bad. It's but it's not gonna be unrecoverable from you're going to be able to recover. So it's a long term. We'll be okay even if the worst case happens.
But sometimes the worst case isn't really the worst case. Sometimes what we do is we start panicking. And we start imagining extra worst cases, and get ourselves into this panic mode, distorted thinking. And definitely you don't want to let your brain run away from you let your emotions run away from you and go down down further into the rabbit hole of the negative worst case scenario thinking because if you let their brain do that to you long enough, every little thing will eventually ruin your ruin. You're caught, you know, making imagine that your life will be completely ruined. So you can't let your brain do that.
You can't let it imagine the worst, you have to control the situation. So how do you do that? First of all, take a step back. Don't make decisions while you're in a fear state because the part of your brain that causes fear is also called As anger, it's called the amygdala. And that part of the brain is the animal part of the brain. All the animals have it developed very early in evolution.
And it only handles these emotions, that the animal brain doesn't even handle speech, just emotions. And you don't want to be at the whim of your basic basic emotions you want to when you take a step back, when you are able to rationalize it, you're more evolved part of the brain takes over and you're able to use nuanced thinking. In addition to that, in addition to the taking time and space for yourself to really think through the fear that you're having. You should also use a support system or a coach. a support system can be your family, friends, mastermind group, business peers, friends, already mentioned friends, and maybe a one on one coach. All of these can help you talk through and rationalize your fear and evaluate alternatives because maybe usually how things play In life is the worst case and it never happens.
Usually, he ended up somewhere in the middle, and you end up somewhere in the middle it's recoverable from, it's not that bad. So as you give yourself time to think about it, you realize the fear was probably not entirely but largely irrational. And we just need to go through the outcomes. And when it's rationalized, it usually is nowhere as bad as imagined. And then you can take the appropriate things through the strategy that you will take and then appropriate action to either avoid the fear, or they get, you know, challenges head on because it isn't that bad. If it is really that bad.
Then of course, you really want to use the same resources like a coach or your support network, to think of a strategy that entirely avoids this here but still still keeps you in line to meet your goals. So it's a matter of rethinking your strategy to Just avoid the threat
