When you're coming up with a message for your speech or presentation, you constantly have to look at it from two tracks. How are you connecting with people appealing to people with their head at the head levels, the intellectual level? And how about at the heart level? How are you connecting at the emotional level? You've got to have ideas that do both. Now if all you do is communicate emotionally, then maybe you're a demagogue.
If all you do is communicate at the intellectual level, then chances are it may fall flat unless someone is a student in your classroom. But great communicators consistently communicate at both the head and heart level. So when you're coming up with your messages, and that's why there's the importance of stories and examples. You always have to be thinking about communicating on these two tracks the head and the heart.
