There's only one step left in this course. And I'm going to try to make it as brief and painless as possible so we can get through this speech together. But I'm going to warn you right now, you're not going to like what I'm going to ask you to do. But of all the tips in this course it is far and away the most important thing and it's also really, really easy to do doesn't require any skill. You just have to make the decisions, do it. And here is what it is.
I want you to get your notes, give your presentation, pull out your cell phone and record yourself speaking or use your webcam. And now I know I know, you don't want to look at yourself, you don't want to hear your voice tough. Everyone in your audience has to look I could so I don't want to look at myself. I don't like my hair line or I don't like my beady eyes. Well. You have to see my hair line and my BDI so I might as well see it.
I'm not making it harder for anyone else to see my flaws just because I don't look at it. Do so this is far and away the most important thing to do. You've need to practice on video and you need to watch it. You need to know exactly how you're coming across if you can watch it once and you think, okay, that's all right. Can give myself a say plus, I'm better than average. I'm fine.
Good to go. Boom, you've got the confidence you need. You're ready. You don't have to do any more work. Go watch TV now. Okay.
But if you look at the video and you think, Wow, this person just isn't making sense, or I can't hear this person or there's something really missing. That it's time to go back to your notes, change things. add something. refine it. So again, this isn't about you winning the World Toastmasters championship for best speaker in the world. This is just about us getting through but You are a good judge of speakers.
You've been watching speakers your entire life, and business and school educators, teachers, religious leaders, we've all seen thousands and thousands of speakers. So you're a pretty good judge of speakers. So you've got to video record looking at a mirror doesn't work. It's frankly a waste of time. You look in the mirror and you can so catches my nose crooked by getting another wrinkle. complete waste of time.
Talking in front of people and visualizing them naked, complete waste of time. Depending on your audience that's either too exciting or too disgusting. Don't do it. Stay I want you to practice but you've got to know you don't want to but you'll learn a lot. Might be surprised it might be a lot better than you thought which will in turn give you confidence and make this whole process a lot easier or it may show some flaws. It's a whole lot better to make a screw up if no one's around and you can correct it, rather than doing something awful in front of the live audience.
So that is your homework right now. Don't click out of this and go to the next lesson. I need you if you do nothing else for this course, do this one thing, practice your presentation on video and watch it and do it again until you like it.
