Foods that negatively affect the mind. Processed foods and stimulants can really affect the mind. If we're eating processed a lot of processed foods, then they can really affect our state of mind. The amount of peace that we've gotten in our life, especially things like alcohol, coffee, and drugs, whether that be prescription drugs or social drugs. These types of foods can really affect our mind, our body and our well being. And in processed foods, things like sugar and processed salt can have a real detrimental effect to our emotions and our mind and our emotional health.
Why do they do that with stimulating foods, things like coffee, alcohol and drugs. They dehydrate into the body. So when we take them on board for coffee with coffee, for example, If we have in one cup of coffee, then we need four glasses of water, just to compensate for that one cup of coffee that we've had. So let's be honest, how many of us are having, if we have in four cups of coffee, then how many of us are having 16 glasses of water after the bath, those four cups of coffee, it's not when in reality, we're not doing it. So into an everyday we're getting further and further dehydrated. And when the body is dehydrated, it goes into kind of like a fight or flight response.
And then you're on hype, you're on hyper alert, and you are dehydration alerted, some naturopaths call it and this is not a very good space to be in because you have a fight or flight response and it's stimulating to the adrenals and the kidney energy is out the balance, according to the Chinese traditional medicine puts the kidney energy of the balance and then we can lose our STEM Do we need to have at least four pints of water every day if we do an exercise, and if we haven't drained foods, things like alcohol and coffee, then we need more than that again. Of course I need to be as pure water as possible to get the ultimate level of hydration. But any water is better than alcohol, coffee and drugs, not as any kind of those things ever again, it's just limiting those things as much as possible.
And then using using water to rehydrate. I know some people that if they're going to drink and then they'll have one drink and in between the lover drink of water so they love alcohol and water like that, to help them to hydrate as they're doing and they get less of a hangover the next day. Now we don't advocate things like alcohol or drugs of course. But if you are going to do them, then help yourself by hydrating them then moving on to sugar is also very The Android into the body. And it's it affects our blood sugar's more importantly affects our blood sugars in a negative way, because it's so processed, our body doesn't recognize it so much as food, it goes directly into the blood system spikes our blood sugars, and then there's a steep crash afterwards. And when a crash comes in, we want more of it.
So it's just like heroin or cocaine and it's the same receptors in the brain that it triggers off as those drugs because it gives you that instant feelgood factor, but then you go straight back down afterwards and then as your your effect because you're going back to the sugar then bad feeling down and back to the sugar. And so your your, your your effect then, and it's not that very beneficial for stable in the mind. So if we can limit that as much as possible or even take it out of our diet and replace it with some of the alternative things out there, maybe natural sugars. I know they still got sugars in them. But the natural sugars, especially when they eat in as a whole food like dates and of fruits, for example, because they got the whole food and they got the fibers in them as well and it helps the digestion to break those down more gently than it doesn't spike the blood sugars as much.
And then it doesn't have much of as much of a negative effect afterwards. And you won't be chasing, always chasing after the next height, or the next hit. Now I know in these days in working environments in social environments, there's a lot of sugary foods out there. So it's been mindful as we can and being prepared taking things with us healthy snacks with us, so that we don't get caught up in all situations. hydrogenated fats is another one that can affect us on a mental emotional level. Because if we taken on a lot of hydrogenated fats, these are damaged fats, which, when they cooked or heated, they get damaged.
Then we need more antioxidants to break them down their system. And when we don't get the positive effects of the healthy fats, which are in those foods, so it's important that when we're cooking, we can use things like coconut butter. If you if you're vegetarian, if you're not vegan, then you can use things like butter and ghee, or cleric clarified better for cooking, because these types of fats do not get damaged in the heat and high temperatures. Now, when when eating out many of the restaurants and stuff and not using these things, because they can be a little bit slightly more expensive, but it's well worth spending that little bit more money on that, then spending it on our health in the long term. So when we're being out being mindful when we're being mindful of the food choices that we're making, if we didn't think in like chip shops and things like that, for example, then the damaged fire From the hot oil, and when did they change the oil in the chip fat, a lot of them don't change it daily, even so if they keep heating in all the time, then those fats are getting more and more damaged.
And yeah, meat tastes good, but actually is having a detrimental effect on your health. And it's actually blocking the absorption of the good fats all the time we've taken on the negative bad fats. It's blocking the absorption of the good fats. And of course, we need the good fats, for our brains and for so that our minds can work much more peacefully if we go next levels of good fats. And we may start to see that our memory starts the lack that we've got a lack of focus and concentration in children for example, I've noticed in school that and a perfect example for you is my nephew was struggling in school and he started to have some behavior problems or not behavior problems. But you're struggling with certain elements of his work in school.
And the teachers were getting a bit worried about his work. But then what we did as nutritionist and my wife, Emma advised him to have some tea he, which are essential fatty acids that we need for our brain, you took the D ha, within a month or two months time, within a month, there was a big difference. But within two months time, there's a massive difference in his schoolwork, and he couldn't believe how much it has changed, actually, his memory was better his reading skills are better. And this is because essential fatty acids, again depleted from the negative fats that he was having. And what you find is the body sometimes doesn't know the difference between good fats and bad fats. It does, of course, internally but you know, mind, the body is just saying I want fat so you go straight for bad fats, because they may be the easiest to get.
But when we start to train ourselves again, the good fat and the mega threes for example, in the UK, we need a lot more omega threes because the mega threes had to heat the body, whereas omega sixes have found more in hotter climates. So we be more mindful, you usually get an F omega sixes in your diet. But be more mindful about the mega threes from things like lean seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and then you omega sixes that come in from your nuts and your seeds etc. and trying to take onboard those good fats because we all need a call essential fatty acids for a reason and cutting down on the bad fats because the bad fats are really no good for our health. Process salt is another thing that can affect negatively affect our mind. Process salt is the white salt usually find in most places which is table salt or otherwise known as table salt, when we need to solve because this whole process Acid it depletes the body of magnesium and zinc.
And these, these minerals are the most effective for calming our nervous system down. So when we taken on high quantities of process all through processed foods or even when we're eating out and we're not getting the sea salt or the pink Himalayan salt for example, rock salt and when it's in its natural form, salt can be actually beneficial for us in moderation. But when we're eating table salt and it's really negative for our health is very dehydrated. And like I said, it depletes things like magnesium and zinc. This thing can have a knock on effect on our nervous system, on our mind and our emotions and it can affect the way that we're acting on a day to day basis. The numbers is another big one, that children it's been tested the children when they have enough, especially when they've got certain health histories.
It can really affect them and they can start to act out, their behavior patterns can start to get worse. In other words, it may act out in a different way. But still, it's going to have some kind of an effect on us and the way that our our behavior, so it's good to get those out to the system along with things like gluten, and dairy. These have been linked now to things like autism and delinquent behavior. So when we have the gluten in the daddies plug in, this is what's happened in the physical level is clogging up the colon. And then in turn, it's affecting the mind and the emotions because the colons like what we spoken about the column when it gets congested, congested, then it also congest the mind.
When some children have been taken off, children or adults have been taken off for glutinous diet when they've got things like autism, then they are noticed that their symptoms have started to improve and get better. So this isn't just something that's that's being said, Now it's something that's being tested by science. So it's a good thing if we can start to at least limit these things in our diet, if not take them out altogether. Let's be honest, we are going to have a certain element of this in our lives because we're going to be going out or eaten in places where we're not used to. But if we can be prepared and go for the better options, then there are that many, many more places now. Even in rural areas and in smaller cities, you will start to see now these vegetarian vegan restaurants or gluten free places, places are getting much more up to date now asking them for menus, which tell you what's got gluten in them, what's got meat in it, what's got any of the commonalities in it.
A lot of these restaurants, especially chain ones, now we've got particular menus that you can have that would specify what you're eating. You are what you eat, be mindful. What is taken into your body? Or you actually, there's a lot of people that suggest you are what you absorb rather than you are what you eat. So if we've got a clog that call on we're not going to be absorbing the nutrients that we need, because most of the nutrients are absorbed in our colon. So those are the tips for foods that negatively affect the mind.
See you in the next session.
